{"id":41966,"date":"2016-11-10T18:16:22","date_gmt":"2016-11-10T22:16:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=41966"},"modified":"2016-11-16T11:48:33","modified_gmt":"2016-11-16T15:48:33","slug":"new-bus-shelters-reflect-partnership-between-brock-and-busu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/11\/new-bus-shelters-reflect-partnership-between-brock-and-busu\/","title":{"rendered":"New bus shelters reflect partnership between Brock and BUSU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brock students waiting to catch a bus in front of Schmon Tower will no longer have to worry about rain, snow \u2014 or dead cellphone batteries.<\/p>\n<p>Three new bus shelters along Isaac Brock Blvd. East are now open and are being well-used by students.<\/p>\n<p>Besides offering protection from the elements, the shelters are equipped with interior LED lights and USB outlets for charging cellphones, with all power coming from solar panels on the shelter roof.<\/p>\n<p>The $82,000 cost of the shelters was funded through the Brock University Students\u2019 Union (BUSU) green levy, which students pay into to support green initiatives. The University provided the concrete bases the shelters sit on, helped acquire the necessary building permits and will maintain the structures moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were able to lobby our council and board of directors to use those funds that are accumulated every year for this project,\u201d said Kyle Rose, last year&#8217;s BUSU president who led the charge for the shelters. \u201cWe also had a lot of help from the University.
