Brock University\u2019s Social Justice Research Institute is hosting an evening of discussion and performance around the issue of global social movements.<\/p>\n
The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 13 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Rodman Hall Art Centre and is open to Brock students, faculty, staff and the general public. It will kick off the two-day 2016 SJRI Symposium: Global Movement Assemblages.<\/em><\/p>\n The discussion Thursday explores the relation between post-2010 social movements such as the Arab Spring, Occupy and Idle No More with longer-standing movements for social transformation.<\/p>\n The event will feature a welcome to the Grand River Territory of the Haudenosaunee by Darren Thomas, Seneca Nation, Bear Clan, as well as a panel including:<\/p>\n Sonia Alvarez<\/a>, Leonard Horwitz Chair of Latin American Politics, University of Massachusetts at Amherst<\/p>\n Janet Conway<\/a>, Canada Research Chair in Social Justice, Brock University<\/p>\n Glen Coulthard<\/a>, Yellowknives Dene, First Nations Studies, University of British Columbia<\/p>\n
