{"id":41032,"date":"2016-09-15T15:47:06","date_gmt":"2016-09-15T19:47:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=41032"},"modified":"2016-09-15T15:47:06","modified_gmt":"2016-09-15T19:47:06","slug":"students-reminded-to-obey-traffic-rules-on-and-off-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/09\/students-reminded-to-obey-traffic-rules-on-and-off-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Students reminded to obey traffic rules on and off campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The many Brock University students living in the areas neighbouring the main campus are being reminded to respect the rules of the road.<\/p>\n<p>After complaints were made by concerned residents, Brock is taking steps to educate students living off-campus about the need to obey all local traffic laws. One resident said someone she believed to be a student was seen driving past a stopped school bus picking up children while others are often spotted running stop signs and speeding.<\/p>\n<p>Brock has also asked the Niagara Regional Police to closely monitor the neighbourhoods around\u00a0the campus on Sir Isaac Brock Way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe effective education reinforced with strong enforcement from the proper authorities is a solid first step in helping the community on this issue,\u201d said Curtis Gadula, Manager, Off Campus Living &amp; Neighbourhood Relations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On-Campus Traffic Laws<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students, staff and visitors to Brock are reminded that traffic rules must be followed on campus roads, as well.<\/p>\n<p>The speed limit on campus is 40 km\/h and drivers caught speeding or ignoring stop signs can be ticketed and charged by Niagara Regional Police. Drivers must pay attention and obey the direction of officers who are lawfully directing traffic during the morning rush to ensure all students and staff arrive safely.<\/p>\n<p>Distracted driving fines apply whether on campus or not.
