{"id":40939,"date":"2016-09-13T12:01:36","date_gmt":"2016-09-13T16:01:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=40939"},"modified":"2016-09-13T13:42:51","modified_gmt":"2016-09-13T17:42:51","slug":"campus-security-increasing-patrols-after-rash-of-bike-thefts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/09\/campus-security-increasing-patrols-after-rash-of-bike-thefts\/","title":{"rendered":"Campus Security increasing patrols after rash of bike thefts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Brock students and staff are being reminded to lock up their bicycles, as Campus Security Services investigates a rash of recent bike thefts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Four\u00a0bikes have been stolen from the rack located underneath the Schmon Tower podium since Friday, Sept. 9.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">All of the stolen bikes were locked up at the time of the thefts, campus security said.\u00a0They were all<\/span>\u00a0stolen during the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Campus Security is\u00a0closely monitoring the area with increased patrols. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Anyone who notices suspicious activity is asked to contact security at 905-688-5550, ext.\u00a03200.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Campus Security provided this list of bicycle theft prevention tips:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2022 Use a\u00a0U-shaped bicycle\u00a0lock to\u00a0secure your\u00a0bike to\u00a0a bike\u00a0rack. Using\u00a0a U-shaped\u00a0lock on\u00a0the frame and a cable lock system to secure the wheels to the frame is recommended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2022\u00a0Always lock up your bicycle \u2013 theft takes seconds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2022\u00a0Lock all\u00a0removable parts\u00a0like the\u00a0wheels.\u00a0Take any\u00a0removable items,\u00a0such as\u00a0lights and odometers, with you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2022\u00a0Ensure the\u00a0lock and\u00a0bike is\u00a0difficult\u00a0to\u00a0move when\u00a0secured.\u00a0Always\u00a0keep the\u00a0lock away\u00a0from the ground; thieves may try to smash it. Ensure the gap between the bike and the lock is small.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2022\u00a0Avoid locking\u00a0your bike\u00a0in an\u00a0isolated area.\u00a0Lock it\u00a0where a\u00a0potential thief\u00a0can easily\u00a0be seen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2022\u00a0Make a\u00a0detailed written record\u00a0of the\u00a0bicycle model,\u00a0make, colour\u00a0and any\u00a0other unique characteristics.
