{"id":40866,"date":"2016-09-08T11:15:38","date_gmt":"2016-09-08T15:15:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=40866"},"modified":"2016-09-08T11:15:38","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T15:15:38","slug":"graduate-studies-scholarship-information-sessions-scheduled-throughout-september","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/09\/graduate-studies-scholarship-information-sessions-scheduled-throughout-september\/","title":{"rendered":"Graduate Studies scholarship information sessions scheduled throughout September"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Faculty of Graduate Studies invites fourth-year undergraduate and current graduate students with a minimum 80 per cent average in each of the last two years of study to attend <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/graduate-studies\/current-students\/financial-resources\/external-awards\/sessions\" target=\"_blank\">information sessions<\/a> about external scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>The sessions will focus on the application process and deadlines for the Tri-Agency External Scholarships (NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR) and Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS).<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Brock graduate students received approximately $2.5 million in provincial and national funding to support research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSolid, steady funding through Tri-Agency awards is fundamental to making the best work happen,\u201d says Jens Coorssen, Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies. \u201cOur students are competing in a highly competitive funding environment. Their success in achieving Tri-Agency funding reflects on the excellence and rigour of their research and it is a strong measure of the calibre of their work as part of Canada\u2019s contribution to discovery and innovation on the world stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the information sessions, the FGS invites students to attend a workshop to assist them with structuring a compelling proposal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cShow me the money! Scholarship proposals that go \u2018CA-ching,\u2019 \u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>Friday, Sept. 23, 1 to 3 p.m.,\u00a0Pond Inlet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The workshop panel includes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Joffre Mercier, Associate Vice-President, Research;<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor Tim Murphy, Psychology;<\/p>\n<p>Ryan McCarthy, Director of Research Services, and<\/p>\n<p>Julia Polyck-O\u2019Neill, a PhD student in Interdisciplinary Humanities and recipient of a SSHRC doctoral scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>The event is a presentation of the VITAE Essential Skills program.
