{"id":39958,"date":"2016-06-30T08:39:50","date_gmt":"2016-06-30T12:39:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=39958"},"modified":"2016-07-13T15:52:59","modified_gmt":"2016-07-13T19:52:59","slug":"podcast-from-bba-to-cpa-on-conversations-with-goodman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/06\/podcast-from-bba-to-cpa-on-conversations-with-goodman\/","title":{"rendered":"PODCAST: From BBA to CPA on Conversations with Goodman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week\u2019s <em>Conversations with Goodman <\/em>podcast guest is Christian Guirguis (BBA \u201814) who talks to host Susan LeBlanc about his experience at the Goodman School of Business and his pathway to the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.<\/p>\n<p>A graduate of Goodman\u2019s business administration (BBA) program, Guirguis is following perhaps a non-traditional pathway to the CPA designation, but one that he\u2019s happy to take to obtain a varied experience that will lead to a strong foundation for his career.<\/p>\n<p>As a student, Guirguis gained relevant experience through various positions at Research in Motion, Metrolinx and RBC in areas such as operations management, pricing strategy, internal audit and project management.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thankfully graduated with a pretty friendly resume and also got involved in extracurriculars that exposed me to some networks that ultimately helped me landing my full-time offer at KPMG,\u201d Guirguis says.<\/p>\n<p>He is currently on a campus recruitment secondment at KPMG, putting him on the other side of the interviewing table as he connects with current university students at different points of their job search processes.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating from the BBA program with some credits to use towards the CPA designation, Guirguis is focusing on finishing up his academic studies with CPA\u2019s Professional Education Program while working full-time.<\/p>\n<p>He stays connected to the University and was on campus recently to help judge a student competition.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to his advice for students, it\u2019s all about a positive attitude and open mind for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo things because you think it\u2019s the right thing to do and don\u2019t ever say no to an opportunity.
