A number of buildings at Brock University\u2019s main campus in St. Catharines will be shutdown for planned maintenance and utility upgrades this weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Schmon Tower, Thistle Complex, Decew and Vallee Residences, the Cairns Family Health and Bioscience and Research Complex and the Central Utilities Building will all be powered down and closed from 10 p.m. on Friday, May 13 until 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.<\/span><\/p>\n

All doors will be locked and swipe card access will be unavailable at these buildings during these times.<\/span><\/p>\n

Internet access, including wireless, will also not be available in the buildings undergoing maintenance.<\/span><\/p>\n

For emergency-only access to any of these affected areas during the shutdown, please contact Campus Security Services (x3200) to make arrangements.<\/span><\/p>\n

In all affected areas, faculty and staff are reminded to clean out fridges and remove anything that is at risk of spoilage prior to leaving for the weekend on Friday, May 13.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the unlikely event that power cannot be restored to these areas by 10 a.m. on Saturday, information will be posted on the Brock homepage. Every effort will be made to communicate this decision by 8 a.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

The rest of the University\u2019s main and east campuses will have normal power and will be operational as usual.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, in addition to the regularly scheduled maintenance work in the planned buildings, Horizon Utilities will be performing utility feeder work at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n

This work includes the installation of new hydro poles, switches and metering that supports Horizon\u2019s infrastructure. Preparation work by Horizon Utilities is currently being performed along part of the Bruce Trail pathway, north of the Central Utilities Building to Glenridge Avenue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In order for the final stage of Horizon\u2019s work to take place, a one-minute campus wide power outage will occur on Thursday, May 12 at 7 a.m. to transfer buildings off the feeder and allow maintenance work by Horizon Utilities.\u00a0A one-minute power outage is also scheduled to occur campus wide Monday, May 16<\/span> at 7 a.m. in order to transfer power back to normal configuration.<\/span><\/p>\n

During Horizon Utilities work, the entire main campus will be fed from one feeder M-71 which means the University will be operating without the normal safeguard of redundant utility feeds and co-generated power for the duration of the weekend. Any loss of power from the utility on M-71 will result in loss of power for the entire campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
