{"id":38949,"date":"2016-05-16T16:13:15","date_gmt":"2016-05-16T20:13:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=38949"},"modified":"2016-05-16T16:13:15","modified_gmt":"2016-05-16T20:13:15","slug":"ors-announces-internal-research-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/05\/ors-announces-internal-research-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"ORS announces internal research grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Brock University Office of Research Services has announced the results of two of its internal research funding competitions.<\/p>\n<p>Eight researchers have received seed grants under the Brock SSHRC Institutional Grant (BSIG).<\/p>\n<p>The faculty and their research programs are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kimberley Gammage, Department of Kinesiology: \u201cI hate bathing suit shopping: Men&#8217;s experiences shopping for bathing suits\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Ivan Medovikov, Department of Economics: \u201cMacroeconomic News Index: A Quantitative Measure of Key Economic News\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Michael Savage, Department of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies in Education, \u201cTeachers&#8217; and school staff&#8217;s perceptions of mental health and wellness\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Samir Trabelsi, Department of Accounting, \u201cIFRS Adoption, Real Earnings Management, Governance Attributes, and IPO Failure Risk\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Ebru Ustundag, Department of Geography, &#8220;Peer Research in Sex Work: Street Level Assessment in St. Catharines\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Tony Volk, Department of Child and Youth Studies, \u201cRedefining Bullying: A Cross-Cultural Pilot\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Katharine von Stackelberg, Department of Classics, &#8220;Hortus inclusus: Expanding boundaries of Space and Time&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Kai-Yu Wang, \u201cCounterfactual Thinking, Construal Level and Product Attribute Preferences&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Seven researchers received seed grants under the Brock University Advancement Fund (BUAF):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joanne Crawford, Department of Nursing, \u201cA pilot study to assess colorectal cancer screening beliefs, attitudes, benefits, barriers, knowledge, and uptake using the Colon Cancer Screening Survey\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Andrea Josse, Department of Kinesiology, \u201cEffects of a weight management intervention with increased dairy intake on body composition and bone health in overweight and obese girls\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Sheila O&#8217;Keefe-McCarthy, Department of Nursing, \u201cItem Generation of the Prodromal Symptoms Screening Scale (PS_SS): A Focus Group Study\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Dawn Prentice, Department of Nursing, \u201cSelf-triage in the emergency department: Validation of the sensitivity and reliability of patient self-report\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Lynn Rempel, Department of Nursing, \u201cMaking the Invisible Visible: Educating Emergency Room Nurses to Provide Compassionate Miscarriage Care\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Karyn Taplay, Department of Nursing, \u201cReflection through simulation: Experienced from the perspective of the vented patient\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Dawn Zinga, Department of Child and Youth Studies, \u201cThe Lived Experiences of Youth Engaged in Performance Arts\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to support our researchers as they prepare their various funding applications,\u201d says Vice-President, Research Gary Libben.\u00a0\u201cThe committee was impressed by the variety of innovative and creative applications.
