{"id":38894,"date":"2016-05-05T15:01:57","date_gmt":"2016-05-05T19:01:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=38894"},"modified":"2016-05-05T15:07:03","modified_gmt":"2016-05-05T19:07:03","slug":"staff-and-alumni-in-niagaras-top-40-under-forty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/05\/staff-and-alumni-in-niagaras-top-40-under-forty\/","title":{"rendered":"Staff and alumni among Niagara&#8217;s Top 40 under Forty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"page-intro\">There&#8217;s\u00a0no shortage of young people in Niagara helping drive the community forward.<\/p>\n<p>Several recipients of this year\u2019s Niagara Top 40 Under Forty Business Achievement Awards\u00a0are Brock University alumni and staff.<\/p>\n<p>Alumnus William Parent (BSc \u201913), Brock&#8217;s hospitality event co-ordinator, says \u201cgetting the chance to work alongside and mentor current students is one of the reasons I love working at Brock.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a student, he developed leadership and business management skills working for several areas across campus including Smart Start, the Brock University Students\u2019 Union and for the event operations team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an elected member of the Brock University Students\u2019 Union I learned the importance of governance and working as a team player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parent, also an active community volunteer, says giving back to the community comes naturally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI give when I can, where I can,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_38895\" style=\"width: 1060px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38895\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-38895\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_3214-1050x700.jpg\" alt=\"Sandy Howe\" width=\"1050\" height=\"700\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-38895\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sandy Howe<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Staff member Sandy Howe is honoured to be named one of Niagara\u2019s next generation of business leaders.
