Roy Adams Centre for Dementia and Convalescent Care at Linhaven, one of Niagara Region\u2019s long-term care homes, knows the value of professional development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Region has afforded me the opportunity to grow in my role and progress in my career,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy is among the first group to benefit from a new continuing education partnership between Brock\u2019s Goodman School of Business and Niagara Region through the Professional Leadership Certificate, a customized program offered exclusive to Niagara Region employees.<\/p>\n<p>Offered through Goodman\u2019s Centre for Innovation, Management and Enterprise Education (CIMEE), the partnership outlines a set of five professional seminars aligned with Niagara Region\u2019s learning focus and covers topics such as collaboration, managing performance, innovation and communications.<\/p>\n<p>Fourteen Niagara Region employees successfully completed the training and were awarded certificates on April 26 by Ernest Biktimirov, associate dean, research and graduate programs, Goodman School of Business; Abdul Rahimi, director, CIMEE; and Fiona Peacefull, director, people services and organizational development, Niagara Region.<\/p>\n<p>Having worked at Niagara Region as a registered nurse (RN) for a short time, Murphy has since moved to the administrative side of the healthcare field and says the program has helped her to become better at her job, especially since she does not have a business background.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can apply the skills and strategies I\u2019ve learned through these sessions every day at my job,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The CIMEE programming allows Niagara Region employees to participate as a cohort, allowing for increased collaboration and application to their jobs, something that Murphy emphasizes is extremely valuable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing through the program as a cohort with my colleagues has allowed us to learn from clear examples, we can converse and recognise how we can apply these skills to our work at the Region,\u201d she said. \u201cIt also promotes the one team philosophy of Niagara Region by coming together with our colleagues across different sectors within the organization,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Biktimirov commends the Region on its proactive approach to developing their leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe success of this program shows the Region\u2019s commitment to investing in its employees to help them improve their skill sets,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Local leaders from Niagara Region have completed the first continuing education program offered through a unique partnership with Brock University.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":22,"featured_media":38801,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[39,1,4],"tags":[1966],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/38798"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/22"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=38798"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/38798\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":38802,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/38798\/revisions\/38802"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/38801"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=38798"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=38798"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=38798"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
