{"id":38761,"date":"2016-04-27T13:07:13","date_gmt":"2016-04-27T17:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=38761"},"modified":"2016-04-27T13:07:13","modified_gmt":"2016-04-27T17:07:13","slug":"mental-health-week-activities-planned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/04\/mental-health-week-activities-planned\/","title":{"rendered":"Mental health week activities planned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Canadian Mental Health Association\u2019s (CMHA) Mental Health Week is an annual national event that takes place during the first week in May to encourage people from all walks of life to learn, talk, reflect and engage with others on all issues relating to mental health. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Brock University&#8217;s Health Management recognizes the importance of raising mental health awareness, reducing the stigma and providing opportunities to promote overall wellness. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">All staff and faculty are encouraged to join\u00a0in the events planned for Mental Health Week and #GetLoud in taking steps to focus on the importance of mental well-being.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There are a variety of events taking place on campus the week of May 2-6:<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u2022 Art Activity Drop-In on\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">May 2\u00a0from\u00a09 a.m. to\u00a04\u00a0p.m. in\u00a0MCA 323:\u00a0E<\/span>xplore the therapeutic benefits of colouring. Adult colouring is one of the latest strategies for coping with stress and anxiety.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2022\u00a0Yoga for Everyone on\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">May 3\u00a0from\u00a012:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Bob Davis Gym:\u00a0<\/span>Drop in for the basics of yoga. If you have your own yoga mat, please feel free to bring it along. Dress comfortably and learn more about the benefits of yoga.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2022\u00a0Shepell Workshop: Creating Balance in Your Life on\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">May 5\u00a0from noon to\u00a01\u00a0p.m.:\u00a0<\/span>In today\u2019s environment of competing demands, relentless commitments and a consistent feeling of shortage of time, balance often does not come easily or naturally. A conscious effort, deep commitment and clear priorities are required to create and protect one\u2019s sense of balance. This session will help participants explore how their current choices impact their work-life satisfaction and help them develop strategies to achieve a greater balance in life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2022\u00a0Wear green, enjoy a walk followed by a BBQ lunch all in support of Mental Health on\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">May 6 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.: At<\/span>\u00a011:15 a.m. meet in the lobby of Schmon Tower and enjoy a 30-minute walk outside, weather permitting. The walk concludes in\u00a0Jubilee Court for a barbecue\u00a0to support the Canadian Mental Health Association \u2013 Niagara in their mental health initiatives. Wear green in support of Mental Health Awareness and reducing the stigma. The barbecue<span class=\"s1\">\u00a0will include your choice of hamburger, hotdog or veggie burger served with kettle chips for $5.50.\u00a0 Pop or water is $1.50.
