{"id":38225,"date":"2016-03-24T15:31:34","date_gmt":"2016-03-24T19:31:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=38225"},"modified":"2016-03-24T15:32:25","modified_gmt":"2016-03-24T19:32:25","slug":"baseball-head-coach-retires-after-20-years-and-500-wins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/03\/baseball-head-coach-retires-after-20-years-and-500-wins\/","title":{"rendered":"Baseball head coach retires after 20 years and 500 wins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Brock University baseball head coach\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gobadgers.ca\/coaches.aspx?rc=142\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s2\">Jeff Lounsbury<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is retiring after 20 seasons at the helm of one of the top baseball program&#8217;s in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">One of the winningest coaches in Canadian university baseball, and a three-time Ontario coach of the year, Lounsbury made his announcement Wednesday evening when he told his players.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;We would like to thank Jeff for his dedication and commitment to the Brock baseball program over the past 20 years,&#8221; said Brock Director of Athletics\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gobadgers.ca\/staff.aspx?staff=120\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s2\">Neil Lumsden<\/span><\/a>. &#8220;Jeff built one of the top programs in the country and was instrumental in making university baseball what it is today.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">In October 2015, Lounsbury became just the second coach at a Canadian school to record 500 career wins, joining UBC&#8217;s Terry McKaig. He also became the first coach in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) to win 200 regular season conference games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Lounsbury ends his university coaching career with an impressive 507-234-5 record (.683 winning percentage). \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Lounsbury led the Badgers to two CIBA National Championships (1998, 1999), four OUA Championships (2002, 2004, 2010, 2014), three Ontario West crowns, seven CIBA Championship appearances, six OUA regular season titles and 11 consecutive 20-plus win seasons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Lounsbury was named the OUA Coach of the Year three times (2005, 2012, 2014) and was inducted into the Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame in January of this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">In 2003, Lounsbury was named Assistant Coach to the Canadian Student National Baseball team, which participated in a six-game Friendship Series with the United States National Team and the FISU II World University Baseball Championships held in Taiwan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">During his time at Brock, he had the opportunity to coach many great student-athletes, highlighted by Andrew Tinnish, the all-time leader in four offensive categories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Also on the roster he coached: former OUA top hitters Dan Baribeau (2001), Raul Borjas (2002), Andrew Sorochan (2003), Adam Vella (2004), Mike Walker (2009), Shaun Valeriote (2010 &amp; 2011),\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gobadgers.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=3550\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s2\">Justin Gideon<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(2014 &amp; 2015) and OUA Most Valuable pitchers\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gobadgers.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=2837\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s2\">Justin Ayles<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(2014) and Rylan Pranger (2004).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Brock\u2019s baseball program is searching for a new head coach.
