{"id":38221,"date":"2016-03-24T14:43:43","date_gmt":"2016-03-24T18:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=38221"},"modified":"2016-03-24T14:44:11","modified_gmt":"2016-03-24T18:44:11","slug":"brock-university-wind-ensemble-will-be-on-stage-at-the-firstontario-performing-arts-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/03\/brock-university-wind-ensemble-will-be-on-stage-at-the-firstontario-performing-arts-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock University Wind Ensemble will be on stage at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Brock University Wind Ensemble is getting ready to breathe new life into an eclectic mix of classics on stage at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Tuesday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m., the ensemble will take to the stage in Partridge Hall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The group\u00a0combines of the best of beloved genres in a style that brings audiences together \u2014 young and old, classical connoisseurs and roots enthusiasts, jazz aficionados and bluegrass buffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The theme Rhythm of the Night centres on Gershwin\u2019s \u201cRhapsody in Blue\u201d and fuses jazz, classical and roots music to create a dynamic, genre-bending concert experience. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Under the baton of conductor Zoltan Kalman, the ensemble features the talents of 60 musicians drawn from Brock University, high schools within the Niagara Region and the broader music community. This concert includes Kelly Hindrichs, Peter Macdonald, Mary-Anne Pearson, David Pearson, and Graham Young from Hamilton&#8217;s Symphony on the Bay, as well as Joanne Romanow from the Burlington Concert Band.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">High school students from the Niagara Region include: Makayla Todd and Todd Morgan from Laura Secord SS (St. Catharines), and Lindsey Cook from E. L. Crossley SS (Pelham).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The evening program features masterworks of the past and present, including \u00a0\u201cManzoni Requiem\u201d by Giuseppe Verdi; \u201cThe Year of the Dragon\u201d by Philip Sparke; \u201cSlava!\u201d by Leonard Bernstein; \u201cSevens\u201d by Samuel Hazo; \u201cSongs of Sailor and Sea\u201d by Robert Smith; \u201cThe Bandwagon\u201d by Philip Sparke; \u201cLoch Lomond\u201d by Frank Ticheli; \u201cSuite from Indiana Jones\u201d and from Star Wars, \u201cThe Marches\u201d by John Williams; and \u201cRhapsody in Blue\u201d by George Gershwin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;The ensemble is thrilled to play in Partridge Hall, a state-of-the-art performance venue at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre!
