{"id":38139,"date":"2016-03-18T10:46:50","date_gmt":"2016-03-18T14:46:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=38139"},"modified":"2016-03-18T10:47:18","modified_gmt":"2016-03-18T14:47:18","slug":"second-talk-in-social-justice-speaker-series-taking-place-march-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/03\/second-talk-in-social-justice-speaker-series-taking-place-march-21\/","title":{"rendered":"Second talk in social justice speaker series taking place March 21"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Brock University&#8217;s Social Justice Research Institute&#8217;s speaker series continues March 21 at 5 p.m. with\u00a0visiting Fulbright Scholar Babette Boyd.<\/p>\n<p>Her talk is titled <em>The Racial Contexts of Sexual Assault.\u00a0<\/em>She will discuss that in addition to myths that disadvantage all female victims of sexual violence, there are some myths that serve to particularly disadvantage black and indigenous women.<\/p>\n<p>This lecture will discuss how these myths developed and have been historically propagated and how they serve to build a shield around offenders while simultaneously preventing black and indigenous victims from receiving the full protection of the law and of society.<\/p>\n<p>Registration is encouraged by emailing <a href=\"mailto:sjri@brocku.ca\">sjri@brocku.ca<\/a> but drop ins are welcome.
