{"id":38048,"date":"2016-03-11T17:03:21","date_gmt":"2016-03-11T21:03:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=38048"},"modified":"2016-03-14T09:44:34","modified_gmt":"2016-03-14T13:44:34","slug":"a-message-from-brock-president-jack-lightstone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/03\/a-message-from-brock-president-jack-lightstone\/","title":{"rendered":"A message from Brock President Jack Lightstone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Dear staff, faculty and students,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In light of today\u2019s media attention regarding a complaint of sexual harassment at Brock University, I wanted to ensure that you hear from me directly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Brock takes the issue of sexual harassment very seriously.<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We regret the emotional trauma this incident has caused to the complainant. It is important you all know that Brock staff were supportive and responsive as soon as they learned of the complaint.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Brock has confidentiality measures as a result of a variety of legal obligations to both complainants and respondents in cases like these. If any complainant ever wishes to discuss their experience, they are free to do so, even though the University is bound by its confidentiality measures. We regret if we led the complainant to believe otherwise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Due to privacy and human rights legislation, Brock cannot disclose the exact terms of the actions taken, but I can tell you that the employee involved in this situation is not teaching any classes and is not on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A sexual violence prevention committee of faculty, staff and students was created last September and is working to develop a new stand-alone policy dealing with sexual violence awareness, prevention and responses.
