While she emphasizes that persistent \u2018race\u2019 and class-based social hierarchies, and ongoing exploitation from foreign interests\u00a0are still undermining the Haitian poor in troubling ways, there is reason for hope.<\/p>\n<p>The promise of the Haitian Revolution \u2013 for liberty, equality and fraternity \u2013 is still palpable among Haiti\u2019s peasantry.
