{"id":37823,"date":"2016-02-26T12:16:18","date_gmt":"2016-02-26T16:16:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=37823"},"modified":"2016-02-26T12:16:32","modified_gmt":"2016-02-26T16:16:32","slug":"28th-annual-cuvee-grand-tasting-set-to-showcase-ontario-vqa-wine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/02\/28th-annual-cuvee-grand-tasting-set-to-showcase-ontario-vqa-wine\/","title":{"rendered":"28th annual Cuv\u00e9e Grand Tasting set to showcase Ontario VQA wine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With one week to go, organizers are ready to roll out the red carpet for the 28th annual <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cuvee.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Cuv\u00e9e Grand Tasting<\/a><\/strong> Friday, March 4 at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls.<\/p>\n<p>Organized by Brock University\u2019s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI), Cuv\u00e9e is one of the largest celebrations of VQA wine. The event will pair wine from 48 VQA wineries with culinary offerings from 12 celebrated chefs who will present signature dishes at live cooking stations. The night ends with the Apr\u00e8s Cuv\u00e9e after party which features a live band, Icewine, sparkling wine, cider and local craft beer.<\/p>\n<p>Proceeds from the event go to the Cuv\u00e9e Legacy Fund established after the 2015 event. The fund has already awarded $15,000 in academic scholarships and contributed $13,000 towards industry-driven research projects. In recognition of their past stewardship of the event, $5,000 also went to support the Niagara Community Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only does Cuv\u00e9e showcase the finest VQA wines to consumers, it helps the industry continue to grow by funding valuable research and scholarships,\u201d says CCOVI director Debbie Inglis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cuv\u00e9e en Route<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The event doesn\u2019t end with the Grand Tasting, the Cuv\u00e9e en Route passport program runs March 4-6 and provides consumers access to exclusive tasting flights and unique dining opportunities. Each of the 35 participating wineries has put careful consideration into showcasing wines that wouldn\u2019t normally be available to the public for tasting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe passport program extends the Cuv\u00e9e experience,\u201d says Cuv\u00e9e manager Barb Tatarnic, \u201cconsumers have the opportunity to visit their favourite wineries from the Grand Tasting and create a memorable weekend in wine country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Cuv\u00e9e en Route lineup includes limited edition wines, unique Ontario varietals, horizontal tastings where participants can taste multiple varietals from the same vintage and vertical flights where the same wine from a variety of vintages is showcased.
