{"id":37769,"date":"2016-02-23T12:15:47","date_gmt":"2016-02-23T16:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=37769"},"modified":"2016-02-23T12:15:47","modified_gmt":"2016-02-23T16:15:47","slug":"high-profile-athletic-directors-place-friendly-bet-as-badgers-head-back-to-meridian-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/02\/high-profile-athletic-directors-place-friendly-bet-as-badgers-head-back-to-meridian-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"High-profile Athletic Directors place friendly bet as Badgers head back to Meridian Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"p1 page-intro dropcap\"><span class=\"s1\">There will be some high stakes on the line when the Brock Badgers and McMaster Marauders tangle at the Meridian Centre Wednesday night (Feb. 24)\u00a0.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Neil Lumsden, Brock University\u2019s new Director, Athletics and Recreation and a Canadian Football hall-of-famer, has challenged McMaster University Athletic Director Glen Grunwald, a former NBA general manager, to a friendly wager over which school will finish the two games with a higher combined point total.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">If the Badgers score more points than the Marauders in the two games, Grunwald will have to wear a Brock Badgers jersey to work at McMaster Friday. Should the Marauders win the bet, Lumsden will wear a McMaster uniform to work at Brock Friday. If either team sweeps both games, the losing athletic director will have to wear the full uniform \u00ad\u2014 jersey and shorts \u2014 to work Friday.<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"p2 pull-quote\">We\u2019re going to be perfect hosts and offer them a wonderful experience at the Meridian Centre, until tipoff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to be perfect hosts and offer them a wonderful experience at the Meridian Centre, until tipoff,\u201d joked Lumsden. \u201cWe\u2019ve already started looking for a jersey that will fit Glen since he\u2019s such a tall guy. I think red will look good on him.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">For the teams themselves, the games are important to the standings and the Ontario University Athletics playoff picture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The women\u2019s game, taking place at 5:30 p.m., will see the 10-7 Badgers taking on the 13-4 Marauders, who are ranked eighth in Canada in the Canadian Interuniversity Sports Top 10. McMaster is coming off of a three-game winning streak while the Badgers have won two in a row.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFrom our own prep, we want to treat it like any other game. But outside of the game it\u2019s far more important because it\u2019s a bridge between Brock University and the community,\u201d said women\u2019s coach Si Khounviseth. \u201cThat\u2019s what makes it great.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The men\u2019s game takes place at 7:30 p.m. with the Badgers and Marauders both coming into the matchup with equal 12-5 OUA records. The two teams have been back and forth in the CIS rankings this season, but McMaster currently sits fifth with Brock sitting seventh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFebruary for us has been about preparing for the playoffs, and this is another game we use for that,\u201d said men\u2019s coach Charles Kissi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">This season has seen a remarkable turnaround for the Badgers men\u2019s team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe\u2019ve won more games this year than we did the two previous seasons,\u201d Kissi said. \u201cWe went from not making the playoffs for two years to being nationally ranked and now making the playoffs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Wednesday\u2019s games mark the second time this season Brock University has hosted basketball home games at the downtown St. Catharines Meridian Centre. Located right next door to the school\u2019s brand new and state-of-the-art Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts, the Meridian Centre can hold up to 3,500 fans for basketball games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Tickets for the doubleheader are still available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ticketmaster.ca\/\"><span class=\"s2\">ticketmaster.ca<\/span><\/a> for $10 including all service fees. There are also $35 courtside seats available.
