{"id":37426,"date":"2016-01-28T11:35:38","date_gmt":"2016-01-28T15:35:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=37426"},"modified":"2016-01-28T11:39:37","modified_gmt":"2016-01-28T15:39:37","slug":"badgers-head-back-to-meridian-centre-to-face-rival-marauders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2016\/01\/badgers-head-back-to-meridian-centre-to-face-rival-marauders\/","title":{"rendered":"Badgers head back to Meridian Centre to face rival Marauders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A university gymnasium isn\u2019t big enough to contain this rivalry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Brock Badgers men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball teams will take on regional rivals the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday, Feb. 24, but for the second time this season, the Brock home games will be played at the Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines.<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Another record-breaking crowd is expected for the doubleheader between the two Ontario basketball powerhouses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to be playing at the Meridian Centre again in front of the best fans in the CIS,\u201d Badgers women\u2019s head coach Si Khounviseth said. \u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity for Brock and the community to come together to highlight what a great sports region Niagara is.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The doubleheader will start with the Badgers women (7-4) taking on the Marauders (8-3) at 5:30 p.m. Brock had been ranked as high as sixth in the country earlier this year, but has now slipped from the Top 10. McMaster is ranked eighth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The Badgers men (9-2) take on the Marauders (9-2) starting at 7:30 p.m. The two teams have been back and forth in the CIS rankings, with McMaster currently fourth and Brock fifth. It\u2019s the second-to-last game of the regular season for both teams, so it could have serious playoff implications.<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThis will be the last home game of the season. It could decide the top spot in our conference and potentially a first-round bye in the playoffs,\u201d said Badgers men\u2019s coach Charles Kissi. \u201cWe had 2,800 fans for the first game (at the Meridian Centre) and I anticipate this one selling out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI think our fans will play a major role in being the sixth man for us. Mac is going to bring a big crowd, but we want to drown them out.\u201d<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Tickets for the doubleheader are now available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ticketmaster.ca\/\"><span class=\"s2\">ticketmaster.ca<\/span><\/a> for $10 including all service fees. There are also $35 courtside seats available.
