{"id":36828,"date":"2015-12-18T09:13:25","date_gmt":"2015-12-18T13:13:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=36828"},"modified":"2015-12-18T12:47:36","modified_gmt":"2015-12-18T16:47:36","slug":"whats-open-and-closed-during-the-holidays-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2015\/12\/whats-open-and-closed-during-the-holidays-3\/","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s open and closed during the holidays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>University buildings throughout the Main Campus, East Campus and Satellite locations will be locked and closed during the holidays <strong>from 6 p.m. Thursday,<\/strong> <strong>December 24, 2015 <\/strong>and will re-open for regular business hours on<strong> Monday, January 4, 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Individuals who have passcard (proxy\/swipe) access to buildings (exterior doors) can enter the building if they are authorized to do so during this time. For your personal safety, we ask that you contact Campus Security at Ext. 3200 to advise them of your location and to contact them when you leave the building. Please ensure that you have your Brock identification with you and able to produce it if asked.<\/p>\n<p>If you <u>do not<\/u> have passcard access, you must enter through the front of the Schmon Tower and register at the Welcome Desk. Campus Security officers will be stationed at the Welcome Desk between 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. You will be asked for identification, the reason for your visit, and length of your stay. Please contact Campus Security at Ext. 3200 when you leave. If there is no one at the Welcome Desk, contact Ext. 3200 or via the emergency phone at the podium pillar at the front of the Schmon Tower. An officer will meet you there.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Personal safety is paramount<\/em><\/strong><em> \u2013 Lab activities cannot be conducted alone. You must make sure someone knows where you are.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In Case of Fire or other serious emergencies: Call 911 &#8211; then phone Campus Security at Ext. 3200 to pinpoint the location and facilitate response. Pull Fire Alarm if there is a fire and leave the building.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schmon Tower<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The main entrance doors will be accessible from <strong>Friday,<\/strong> <strong>December 25, 2015 to Sunday, January 3, 2016 <\/strong>from 9-11 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m. for faculty, staff and others who do not possess access cards or keys and have a legitimate reason to enter the University \u2013 For your safety EVERYONE MUST sign in at the Welcome Desk.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Campus Security<\/strong> &#8211; if you are aware of any work via contractors or you are planning to attend the University, we request you <strong>e-mail Campus Security Services<\/strong> at <a href=\"mailto:security@brocku.ca\">security@brocku.ca<\/a> <strong>prior to December 15<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong> with specified times and dates. Brock University identification or contractor identification <u>must be produced<\/u>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>James A. No access on January 1, 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Buildings with Passcard (Proxy\/Swipe) Access<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The buildings will be accessible to those who have the authority and legitimate reason to enter during off hours and holidays. Please remember that the Auto Alarm Systems are still in effect for off hours, so have your code ready if necessary. Only selected buildings have Auto Alarm. If you have not been given an access code then your building is not affected. Also, contact Campus Security x3200 to inform them that you are in the building. Temporary passcards will not be issued for the holidays.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Access to the Marilyn I. Walker School (MWS) is available to those who are authorized to enter during the holidays. All doors to the MWS will be closed and locked with access to the building via passcard (proxy\/swipe) access. Please sign in when you arrive with Campus Security at their office which is located off the main Lobby and contact them at <strong>x6300<\/strong> to inform them when you leave the building. If you need a door unlocked to a particular room\/area in the building and do not have access to it, you must contact Campus Security at <strong>x6300<\/strong> for access. You may be asked to show your Brock ID so please have your identification with you at all times. This is essential for safety and security reasons. <em>(If you need access to the building over the holidays, but do not yet have passcard access to the exterior doors, please contact Campus Security at <strong>x6300<\/strong>.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Residence Winter Break (all residences except Gateway Suites Residence) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When:\u00a0December 23, 2015 &#8211; noon. &#8211; January 3, 2016 &#8211; noon.<\/p>\n<p><em>All residences (except Gateway Suites Residence) will be closed for the Winter Break<\/em> from noon on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 until noon on Sunday, January 3, 2016.<\/p>\n<p><em>For further information and details regarding this closure<\/em> please refer to the End of Term Notice on the Department of Residences web site at <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/residence\/policies_procedures\/eot\">http:\/\/brocku.ca\/residence\/policies_procedures\/eot<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Parking and Campus Roads<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Should a significant snowfall occur, major campus roads will be cleared, including Lots D and P. These are the parking lots that should be utilized by all visitors, faculty, staff and students. There will be no charge for permit holders to park in these lots over the holiday period.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Facilities Management<\/strong> &#8211; In the event of a building or grounds-related emergency during the period of December 24, 2015 to January 3, 2016 (inclusive) please call Campus Security Services at ext. 3200 who, in turn, will inform the applicable Facilities Management staff to best address the situation. <strong>Heating setbacks and ventilation reductions will be in effect during the Holiday Schedule. For all building related emergencies or issues of an urgent nature during the closure, such as broken glass, loss of power, or flooding, please contact Campus Security at ext. 3200.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Custodial Services<\/strong> will be provided at the Walker Complex during hours of operation over the Holiday Season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No Food Service<\/strong> will be available on campus after noon\u00a0on December 24, 2015 until Saturday, January 2, 2016 (other than vending machines). Regular hours of operations commences on Sunday, January 3, 2016 (Guernsey Market opens 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.). Tim Hortons Tower re-opens at 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2016.
