{"id":36582,"date":"2015-11-18T12:15:12","date_gmt":"2015-11-18T16:15:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=36582"},"modified":"2015-11-18T12:19:08","modified_gmt":"2015-11-18T16:19:08","slug":"brock-names-new-associate-vice-president-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2015\/11\/brock-names-new-associate-vice-president-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock names new Associate Vice-President, Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"page-intro dropcap\">One of Canada\u2019s leading researchers on fresh water resources and conservation is about to become Brock University\u2019s new Associate Vice-President, Research for Humanities and Social Sciences.\u00a0Economist Steven Renzetti has in recent years become a national reference for government agencies as well as news media, on topics ranging from the sale of public water as a commercial commodity, to using residential water meters to reduce consumption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On Jan. 1, 2016 Renzetti begins a three-year term as one of the University\u2019s senior proponents of Brock\u2019s growing culture of research leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProfessor Renzetti is an accomplished researcher who has created and led large national research team initiatives and has been a pioneer in developing community links,\u201d says Brock\u2019s Vice-President Research, Gary Libben.<\/p>\n<p>The Associate Vice-President, Research \u201cplays a broad leadership role in advancing and supporting the culture of research leadership at Brock University,\u201d explains Libben, with Renzetti focusing on the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very excited to accept this position. I look forward to supporting the research efforts of Brock faculty, professional librarians, and students,&#8221; Renzetti says.<\/p>\n<p>Renzetti, who joined Brock in 1988 as a lecturer in the Department of Economics, specializes in environmental economics, which seeks to understand the two-way relationship between the economy and the natural environment.\u00a0His primary area of research is the economics of water resources, which he has published widely in leading peer-reviewed journals.<\/p>\n<p>Key among Renzetti\u2019s accomplishments include securing a $2.3 million SSHRC Partnership r<a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/social-sciences\/research\/water-economics-policy-governance-network\" target=\"_blank\">esearch grant to set up the Water Economics, Policy and Governance Network (WEPGN)<\/a>,\u00a0a Canada-wide group of researchers, managers, policy makers and community groups coming together to help solve our pressing water issues.<\/p>\n<p>Renzetti, who is WEPGN\u2019S Program Director, also serves on a number of editorial boards, government commissions and panels, including most recently the <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2014\/04\/brock-prof-appointed-to-an-ijc-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\">Science Advisory Committee to the International Joint Commission\u2019s Great Lakes Water Quality Board<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At Brock University, Renzetti recently participated in the creation of the new <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2014\/10\/new-graduate-program-aims-to-facilitate-transition-towards-sustainability\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sustainability Science and Society graduate program associated with one of Brock\u2019s transdisciplinary hubs, the Environmental Sustainability Research Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProfessor Renzetti\u2019s combination of research skills, administrative experience, leadership skills, and history of community involvement make him an excellent choice for the position,\u201d says Libben.<\/p>\n<p>Renzetti\u2019s new duties include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>integrating research, teaching, and mentoring<\/li>\n<li>enhancing participation in funding competitions<\/li>\n<li>opening new opportunities for research support<\/li>\n<li>developing and enhancing research policies and procedures<\/li>\n<li>creating new partnerships locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cBrock University has a great deal of research talent and capacity.
