{"id":36299,"date":"2015-11-06T10:20:24","date_gmt":"2015-11-06T14:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=36299"},"modified":"2015-11-06T10:21:04","modified_gmt":"2015-11-06T14:21:04","slug":"working-together-for-a-healthy-niagara-subject-of-research-cafe-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2015\/11\/working-together-for-a-healthy-niagara-subject-of-research-cafe-event\/","title":{"rendered":"Working together for a healthy Niagara subject of Research Cafe event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 11<sup>th<\/sup> annual Mapping the New Knowledges Graduate Student Research Conference will begin its lineup of 2015-16 events on Wednesday, Nov. 18 with the Fall term Research Caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Students\u2019 Association will present, \u201cWorking Together for a Healthy Niagara,\u201d in partnership with the Brock-Niagara Centre for Health and Well-Being. This free community event will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Pond Inlet, Brock campus.<\/p>\n<p>The Caf\u00e9 will be an opportunity to hear first-hand from those directly involved in the Centre. The Centre\u2019s directors and several graduate students will talk about their work and community members representing the SeniorFit, Heart Strong and Power Cord programs will share their experiences.<\/p>\n<p>All those who plan to attend are asked to RSVP by Wednesday, Nov. 11, to Heather Junke at <a href=\"mailto:hjunke@brocku.ca\">hjunke@brocku.ca<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also, mark the dates for the following MNK plans:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> MNK Awards \u2014 submit nominations between now and March 10, 2016<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Graduate Mentorship Awards:<\/strong> Brock graduate students are invited to nominate their faculty supervisors for the Graduate Student Mentorship Awards to recognize excellence in graduate student supervision and mentorship.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/graduate-studies\/current-students\/conferences-events\/graduate-mentorship-award\/criteria\" target=\"_blank\">Click here for more information on the nomination criteria<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marilyn Rose Graduate Leadership Award:<\/strong> The Brock community is invited to nominate faculty, staff and students for their work and leadership in developing and\/or enhancing graduate studies and the graduate student experience for students at Brock University.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/graduate-studies\/fgs-awards\/marilyn-rose-graduate-leadersh\" target=\"_blank\">Click here for more information on the Marilyn Rose award<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> Registration for Brock\u2019s 3MT contest<\/strong> <strong>\u2014 Dec. 7 to Jan. 25, 2016<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Three Minute Thesis (3MT\u00ae) contest challenges\u00a0graduate students to talk about their research and why it matters in a way that will inform and captivate people outside of their disciplines. Along with keeping to the three-minute timeframe, the contestants are limited to using only one static PowerPoint slide for the duration of the presentation. The online registration will be active as of Dec. 7 and a coaching session will be held prior to the event to help students prepare presentations. <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/graduate-studies\/current-students\/conferences-events\/3mt\" target=\"_blank\">Details are posted here on Brock\u2019s 3MT\u00ae website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> Call for MNK Oral and Poster Proposals \u2014 Call for Proposals Jan. 11 to Feb. 19, 2016<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each year, more than 100 graduate students submit proposals to give poster and oral presentations. The online submission form will be active as of Jan. 11. Details will be posted on the <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/graduate-studies\/current-students\/conferences-events\" target=\"_blank\">MNK website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> 3MT\u00ae Preliminary Round \u2014 Tuesday, Feb. 23, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Pond Inlet<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The preliminary round will determine the graduate students who will advance to the contest finals that will be held on conference day, Thursday, April 7.
