The 2:30 p.m. ceremony will include students in the faculties of Education, Applied Health Sciences and Social Sciences.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_35880\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Cheechoo.jpeg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35880\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-35880\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Cheechoo-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"Shirley Cheechoo\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-35880\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brock University Chancellor Shirley Cheechoo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The morning ceremony will also see an historic moment for Brock University when aboriginal Canadian actress and filmmaker Shirley Cheechoo is installed as the institution\u2019s eighth chancellor. She will be the first woman, and the first aboriginal Canadian to hold the ceremonial leadership role. <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2015\/07\/first-nations-filmmaker-shirley-cheechoo-will-be-brock%E2%80%99s-next-chancellor\/\">She succeeds businessman and philanthropist Ned Goodman, who has been Brock\u2019s Chancellor since 2007.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cheechoo is a member of the Cree tribe and lives on Manitoulin Island, where she runs the Weengushk Film Institute\u00a0for aboriginal youth.<\/p>\n<p>During the installation ceremony, Cheechoo\u2019s brother, First Nations elder Ben Cheechoo, will place a beaded crown on her head. This crown was handmade by Cheechoo\u2019s late mother when Cheechoo became Canadian Native Princess, a title she still holds.\u00a0It will then be adorned with an eagle\u2019s feather, which only First Nations elders are allowed to touch before the ceremony.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29058\" style=\"width: 299px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/banner-ned-goodman2.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29058\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-29058 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/banner-ned-goodman2-e1444845551415-289x225.jpg\" alt=\"Outgoing Chancellor Ned Goodman\" width=\"289\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-29058\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Outgoing Chancellor Ned Goodman<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Outgoing Chancellor Ned Goodman will also be honoured during the morning ceremony when he receives an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. The Canadian mining and investment magnate served as Brock University\u2019s Chancellor for eight years.
