{"id":35444,"date":"2015-09-24T08:57:41","date_gmt":"2015-09-24T12:57:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=35444"},"modified":"2015-09-25T15:43:37","modified_gmt":"2015-09-25T19:43:37","slug":"brock-business-student-kickstarted-his-start-up-dreams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2015\/09\/brock-business-student-kickstarted-his-start-up-dreams\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock business student kickstarted his start-up dreams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chris Jia has entrepreneurial aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>He hopes to someday start up his own business.<\/p>\n<p>The third-year Bachelor of Business Administration student in Brock University\u2019s Goodman School of Business had a taste of what that would be like as part of BioLinc\u2019s Kick-Starting Entrepreneurship program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was very helpful in learning entrepreneurship knowledge,\u201d he said. \u201cI gained all this experience so I am more employable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the program consisted of two intensive weekends where participants created teams and developed a business idea. Business plans were presented and participants learned effective pitching techniques.<\/p>\n<p>As well, Jia said there were monthly seminars and workshops on different business related topics from finance and personality to legal services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best experience was working with the people. There are amazing mentors that help you at every stage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The program targets Niagara youth ages 18-29 and encourages them to explore their innovative ideas and advance their early-stage entrepreneurial aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>A second cohort is starting up this fall and anyone interested in participating has until Friday, Sept. 25 to apply by visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/biolinc\/KSE\">brocku.ca\/biolinc\/KSE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNiagara\u2019s youth benefit from being part of the Kick-Starting Entrepreneurship program because they can take advantage of the BioLinc facility and the partnership we have built with Innovate Niagara,\u201d said Dan Lynch, manager of BioLinc. \u201cBy being part of the cohort, they gain access to invaluable support mechanisms like advisory services and formalized programming and training.
