{"id":35212,"date":"2015-09-16T09:40:18","date_gmt":"2015-09-16T13:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=35212"},"modified":"2015-09-23T09:15:35","modified_gmt":"2015-09-23T13:15:35","slug":"returning-to-your-school-completes-the-cycle-of-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2015\/09\/returning-to-your-school-completes-the-cycle-of-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Reunions reconnecting Brock alumni"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cUntil you\u2019re older and experienced in life, you don\u2019t really realize how a university experience changes you,\u201d says Katherine Fisher who graduated from Brock University in 1979 with a BA in Geography.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on her experience at Brock, Katherine believes that \u201creturning to your school completes the cycle of life and helps you remember how much fun, and how many challenges you had,\u201d which is why she is excited to attend the Geography 50+1 Reunion during Homecoming.<\/p>\n<p>Josephine Meeker, a Geography professor at Brock from 1965 to 1996 is leading the charge for this reunion and is excited to see some familiar faces, including Fisher&#8217;s on Sept.\u00a019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProfessor Jo was an amazing and influential mentor\u2026 she inspired and encouraged all [students] to higher learning and opportunities,\u201d Fisher says.<\/p>\n<p>For Political Science graduate Kithio Mwanzia (BA \u201907, MA \u201912), representing the interests of students as a Member of the Board of Directors, Vice-President of University Affairs, and the first international student president of the Brock University Student&#8217;s Union, were his most memorable experiences as a Brock student.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, as CEO and President of the Guelph Chamber of Commerce, Mwanzia\u2019s most important achievement upon graduation has been serving the community in a variety of both professional and volunteer capacities. This year\u2019s Department of Political Science 50<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary reunion is one that will be particularly special for Mwanzia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComing back offers the opportunity to reconnect and celebrate our time at Brock. Whether it was an unfinished debate from a seminar or seeing whether the political views we once held so passionately still hold true \u2013 reconnecting at a reunion is a celebration of what makes the institution a great place,\u201d says Mwanzia.<\/p>\n<p>This year Brock will celebrate over 15 reunions during Homecoming including a Class of 2010 5-Year Reunion, Class of 2005 10-Year Reunion and the aforementioned Geography 50+1 reunion and the Department of Political Science 50<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary reunion. Brock is also celebrating the opening of the new Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts building, the new artificial Turf Field, as well as event favourites like the Tunnel Tours and the Red Dinner.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you graduated in 1967, 2015, or somewhere in between, you are\u00a0welcome\u00a0to come\u00a0back to campus during Homecoming, September 18-20.
