{"id":3503,"date":"2010-06-08T14:42:45","date_gmt":"2010-06-08T19:42:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=3503"},"modified":"2010-12-02T11:22:39","modified_gmt":"2010-12-02T16:22:39","slug":"uk-marketing-academic-will-be-brock%e2%80%99s-new-dean-of-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2010\/06\/uk-marketing-academic-will-be-brock%e2%80%99s-new-dean-of-business\/","title":{"rendered":"U.K. marketing academic will be Brock\u2019s new Dean of Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From his home in England, marketing communications expert Philip Kitchen says he is \u201cdelighted\u201d to be coming to Canada this summer as Brock\u2019s new Dean of Business.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3505\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3505\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3505 \" title=\"Philip Kitchen\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/philipkitchen2.jpg\" alt=\"Philip Kitchen\" width=\"240\" height=\"267\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3505\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Philip Kitchen<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Kitchen, currently chair of Strategic Marketing at Hull University Business School in the U.K., was announced earlier this week as the successor to Interim Dean of Business Barbara Sainty. He begins his five-year term at Brock on Sept. 1, enabling Sainty, Interim Dean for the past two years, to take a 10-month sabbatical before returning to teach and conduct research as a tenured faculty member.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made by Murray Knuttila, Brock\u2019s Provost and Vice-President Academic, who called Kitchen a recognized leader in his field who will help increase Brock\u2019s international presence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very pleased,\u201d Knuttila said. \u201cDr. Kitchen\u2019s academic credentials, and his international reputation and connections, will bring a wealth of experience to Brock.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kitchen said he looks forward to his new position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrock is a great business school underpinned by excellent research,\u201d Kitchen said. \u201cThe future is very promising with a new school planned and many initiatives under way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kitchen\u2019s international resum\u00e9 includes visiting professorships at universities in France, Malaysia, Italy, Colombia, Greece, Norway and New Zealand. He has written or co-authored 12 books, and has presented papers on marketing management or marketing communications at conferences in more than 25 countries.<\/p>\n<p>He is the founder and editor of the <em>Journal of Marketing Communications<\/em>, and serves on the advisory board or is a review board member for 10 academic journals ranging from Europe to the Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n<p>Before joining Hull University in 2001, Kitchen (BA Hons, Manchester Metropolitan University 1983;  MSc, University of Manchester 1984; MBSc, University of Manchester 1987; PhD, Keele University 1993) taught in the U.K. at Queen\u2019s University in Belfast, Strathclyde University, Keele University and Manchester Metropolitan University.<\/p>\n<p>In making the announcement, Knuttila also paid tribute to the outgoing interim dean.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we look forward to Dr. Kitchen\u2019s arrival, I want to add our heartfelt thanks to the widespread appreciation to Dr. Sainty. Her work and leadership as Interim Dean was much valued as the University persevered in the decanal search.
