{"id":34801,"date":"2015-08-31T13:24:35","date_gmt":"2015-08-31T18:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=34801"},"modified":"2015-09-11T14:22:19","modified_gmt":"2015-09-11T18:22:19","slug":"plenty-planned-for-o-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2015\/08\/plenty-planned-for-o-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Plenty planned for O-Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About 18,000 students will be coming to Brock University next week and there&#8217;s no shortage of events planned to welcome them.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you&#8217;re into dancing, parties, poker or games, there&#8217;s something for everyone during this year&#8217;s Orientation Week.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of O-Week is Brockchella &#8211; and there will definitely be a festival feel with campus tours, barbecues, games and a giant vendor fair.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a really good chance for the students to get acquainted with the university,&#8221; said Brian Horvath, BUSU Vice-President of Student Services. &#8220;It&#8217;s really helpful to have friends and build a community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said when the going gets tough at school, connections to other students and the BUSU are vital.<\/p>\n<p>The big-ticket concert on Tuesday, Sept. 8 features house music from headliner 3LAU. Contributed photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s quite a lot of excitement about the big-ticket concert,&#8221; said BUSU Vice-President of Student Services Brian Horvath.<\/p>\n<p>Between 3,000 and 4,000 students are expected at the bash, he said.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also a lot of buzz about a new feature of this year&#8217;s festivities &#8211; a glow-in-the-dark paint party on Friday, Sept. 11.<\/p>\n<p>For a full schedule, details and prices visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.busu.net\/oweek\" target=\"_blank\">www.busu.net\/oweek<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For students new to the school, Horvath said O-Week is a time to meet new people and find out what Brock University has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>While there is no shortage of fun social events, there are also campus tours, a day of volunteering and community events.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Green, Manager of Marketing and Communications for BUSU, said O-Week isn&#8217;t just for first-year students. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
