{"id":34564,"date":"2015-08-11T08:49:50","date_gmt":"2015-08-11T13:49:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=34564"},"modified":"2018-10-03T12:31:42","modified_gmt":"2018-10-03T16:31:42","slug":"brock-programs-helping-keep-niagara%e2%80%99s-seniors-healthy-and-independent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2015\/08\/brock-programs-helping-keep-niagara%e2%80%99s-seniors-healthy-and-independent\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock programs helping keep Niagara\u2019s seniors healthy and independent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many studies have shown that physical activity is critically important for maintaining health during aging, but gym membership may be intimidating for some seniors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">With Niagara\u2019s aging population, the Brock-Niagara Centre for Health and Well<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Being, located on Lockhart Drive in St. Catharines, plays a key role in helping those over 55 to stay healthy, active, and independent, and may contribute to reduced health care costs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">On Monday, The Honorable Mario Sergio, Ontario\u2019s Minister Responsible for Seniors Affairs, as well as St. Catharines MPP Jim Bradley, toured the Brock University facility, which houses a number of exercise programs for Niagara seniors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The team at the <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Brock-Niagara Centre for Health and Well-Being pursues innovative, multi-disciplinary research and provides community programs to improve health and quality-of-life for seniors including those with cardiac issues, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis and amputees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cOur government\u2019s Action Plan for Seniors is our promise to help ensure older adults live fulfilling, independent, active and healthy lives for as long as possible.
