{"id":33665,"date":"2015-05-11T11:49:09","date_gmt":"2015-05-11T16:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=33665"},"modified":"2015-05-11T13:43:53","modified_gmt":"2015-05-11T18:43:53","slug":"sex-doctor-teaching-human-sexuality-spring-course-at-brock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2015\/05\/sex-doctor-teaching-human-sexuality-spring-course-at-brock\/","title":{"rendered":"Sex doctor teaching Human Sexuality Spring course at Brock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-33666\" title=\"Let's Talk Sex - Chalkboard\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/depositphotos_2076088_l-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Let's Talk Sex - Chalkboard\" width=\"504\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">He\u2019s a clinical sexologist with a knack for the creative and he\u2019s ready to teach Brock University students what he knows best \u2013 everything to do with sex.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Brock alumnus <a href=\"http:\/\/www.martindragan.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Martin Dragan<\/a>, who holds a <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">doctoral degree in human sexuality, is teaching the Spring course, Introduction to Human Sexuality, in the Department of Health Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Calling sex one of the most \u201coverlooked subjects in health research and clinical practice,\u201d Dragan says the course \u201cwill amaze, inspire, and intrigue\u201d students. \u201cI think there is a certain interest in these types of classes or topics because we have a natural inclination to be curious about it. Especially when it comes to sex, because it\u2019s so diverse, complex and fascinating to us. We are a product of it, and it\u2019s such a big part of our own lives and health, yet we rarely talk about it in a frank and open manner. This provides a safe venue to explore that topic, to help learn about and explore our own unique natures.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Introduction to Human Sexuality has historically been a popular course at Brock because of the dynamic content and the teaching style of Tony Bogaert, the course\u2019s usual instructor. \u201cWith Tony being on sabbatical, former student Martin Dragan has embraced the opportunity to teach this course with the same dynamic flare,\u201d said Brent Faught, Chair, Department of Health Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Dragan describes his teaching style as \u201cpart performance, part clinically relevant with a dash of self-deprecating humour, mixed in with a great soundtrack \u2026 Basically, I try to make the information I present interesting and applicable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cI am excited to see this course listed among our growing array of Spring Summer courses for 2015\u201d said Anna Lathrop, Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning. \u201cClearly, the course instructor, Martin Dragan, emulates the same level of energy and passion in this area of study as his former mentor\u2014Dr. Tony Boegart.
