{"id":33075,"date":"2015-03-23T08:25:33","date_gmt":"2015-03-23T13:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=33075"},"modified":"2015-03-23T09:57:20","modified_gmt":"2015-03-23T14:57:20","slug":"balfour-and-moores-crowned-senior-national-wrestling-champions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2015\/03\/balfour-and-moores-crowned-senior-national-wrestling-champions\/","title":{"rendered":"Balfour and Moores crowned Senior National Wrestling Champions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_33078\" style=\"width: 521px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/jevon.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33078\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33078\" title=\"jevon\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/jevon.png\" alt=\"Jevon Balfour (left) won a senior national title and was named Wrestling Canada Outstanding Senior Male Wrestler Saturday night.\" width=\"511\" height=\"370\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-33078\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jevon Balfour (left) won a senior national title and was named Wrestling Canada Outstanding Senior Male Wrestler Saturday night.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Brock wrestlers Jevon Balfour and Indira Moores both captured their first Wrestling Canada Senior National titles Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.<\/p>\n<p>Brock wrestlers ended the day with six medals in total.<\/p>\n<p>Balfour, in his second year as a senior, knocked off the top two wrestlers from a year ago, defeating the defending champion Cleo Ncube (YWCA) in the semi-finals 5-5 and winning over 2014 silver medalist Shawn Daye-Finley (Black Bear) in the gold medal match by technical superiority 17-6.<\/p>\n<p>For his performance, Balfour was named the Wrestling Canada Outstanding Senior Male Wrestler.<\/p>\n<p>Moores, in her first year as a senior, posted a 3-0 record, defeating Kathleen Kent (Saskatoon) by the score of 13-10 to capture her first senior title at 60kg.<\/p>\n<p>Capturing bronze for Brock were Jessica MacDonald (48kg), Jessica Brouilette (60kg), Olivia Di Bacco (69kg) and Luke Roberts (61kg).<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the gold medal matches, Wrestling Canada inducted two new members into their Hall of Fame, including former Brock standout wrestler Nick Ugoalah and builder Clive Llewellyn.<\/p>\n<p>Former Brock coach Richard Deschatelets spoke about Ugoalah&#8217;s accomplishments and inducted him into the Hall of Fame.
