{"id":32646,"date":"2015-02-27T16:21:46","date_gmt":"2015-02-27T21:21:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=32646"},"modified":"2015-02-27T16:21:46","modified_gmt":"2015-02-27T21:21:46","slug":"hot-demand-means-registration-will-open-early-for-spring-summer-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2015\/02\/hot-demand-means-registration-will-open-early-for-spring-summer-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Hot demand means registration will open early for Spring Summer 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_32647\" style=\"width: 505px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32647\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-32647\" title=\"tbn-springsummer-495-279\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/tbn-springsummer-495-279.png\" alt=\"Spring Summer 2015 course offerings can now be reviewed online\" width=\"495\" height=\"279\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-32647\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Spring Summer 2015 course offerings can now be reviewed online<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Snowbanks are deep and winter term still has weeks to go, but registration will soon open for Brock&#8217;s expanded Spring Summer 2015 course offerings.<\/p>\n<p>Two years of double-digit enrolment growth speak to the program&#8217;s booming popularity, and on March 9 registration will open for Spring Summer 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The 2015 course lineup can be viewed now at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/springsummer\/\">http:\/\/brocku.ca\/springsummer<\/a>\/<\/p>\n<p>Given the high demand, Brock Vice-Provost Anna Lathrop said the early registration date will help students plan ahead on a work and study schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Lathrop also said a survey last year of more than 1,900 Spring Summer students is helping officials make adjustments to the strategy for this year&#8217;s programs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We learned a lot about why students take courses in the Spring Summer term, and the kind of courses they are looking for,&#8221; said Lathrop. &#8220;This helped us plan for this year. For instance we now know that over 97 per cent of students who take Spring courses plan to study and work &#8211; and to do both, they need to plan early.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The survey found 88 per cent of respondents were very satisfied with the courses they took last year, and indicated that &#8220;satisfying a program requirement&#8221; was one of the major reasons for course selection. More than 60 per cent of respondents said they plan to take more Spring Summer courses this year.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the actual course offerings, respondents also liked the flexibility delivery, being able to choose from online and hybrid options as well as courses condensed into a shorter, accelerated time frame.<\/p>\n<p>Lathrop said there has been a significant rise in non-Brock students who come here to take a Spring Summer course, then have the credit applied to their home university.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to steadily build our capacity for offering courses in the Spring Summer,&#8221; said Lathrop, &#8220;for both our own students and those students who may move to Niagara during the spring and summer months for either family or work reasons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The take-away message for students is this: Review the courses that are proposed so you can consider your Spring and Summer plans.
