{"id":3110,"date":"2010-05-11T11:14:24","date_gmt":"2010-05-11T16:14:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=3110"},"modified":"2010-05-11T11:14:24","modified_gmt":"2010-05-11T16:14:24","slug":"brock-rowers-make-history-at-top-us-regatta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2010\/05\/brock-rowers-make-history-at-top-us-regatta\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock rowers make history at top U.S. regatta"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_3111\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3111\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3111\" title=\"Brock rowers at the Dad Vail Regatta.\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/dadvail.jpg\" alt=\"dadvail\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3111\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brock rowers celebrate their wins at the Dad Vail Regatta.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Brock men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s rowing teams stunned an elite field of competition on the weekend by sweeping three gold medals in Philadelphia at the largest collegiate regatta in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Capping off the 2009-10 season with a huge victory at the prestigious Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, the Brock crews put up championship performances in the Women&#8217;s Varsity Pair and the Women&#8217;s Varsity Lightweight 4 \u2014 and became the first-ever Canadian school in the regatta\u2019s 76-year history to win the coveted Men&#8217;s Varsity Heavyweight 8.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had some of the best results we have ever had at the Dad Vails,\u201d said Brock head coach Peter Somerwil. \u201cIt is a great way to end the season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Dad Vail attracts crews from more than 100 colleges and universities from the U.S. and Canada. Thousands of student athletes gather to compete during the second weekend in May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing the first Canadian crew to win the men\u2019s eight is one of our program\u2019s top accomplishments,\u201d Somerwil said. \u201cIt is great for Brock to get the international recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The gold medal races weren\u2019t even close, with margins of victory ranging from six to 11 seconds.  All three Brock crews dominated the field led by the lightweight women&#8217;s four of Keelin Greenlaw, Michelle Head, Maddie Wiseman, Teresa Hill and coxie Teresa Miele.
