G. Smith and University of California (Los Angeles) history professor Robert Brenner,  topics likely to be covered during the Nov. 14 (7:30 p.m.) event include:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gesposter.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-30566\" title=\"Microsoft Word - FINAL 1 minus Sponsors.docx\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/gesposter-235x300.jpg\" alt=\"Microsoft Word - FINAL 1 minus Sponsors.docx\" width=\"235\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tthe growth of financialization in the economy<br \/>\n\u2022\tthe causes of the financial crisis beginning in 2008<br \/>\n\u2022\tthe effects of the crisis on economic inequality, unemployment, the regulation of the financial system<br \/>\n\u2022\tprospects for recovery<br \/>\n\u2022\talternatives to capitalism<\/p>\n<p>After Brenner and Smith speak, the audience in Welch Hall, room 324, will have a chance to ask questions and give comments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This topic is important for anyone who works, lives or consumes in contemporary society,&#8221; said Jonah Butovsky, Associate Professor of Sociology and one of the event organizers. &#8220;Both authors will likely point to the difficulties of a substantial economic recovery given the structural problems with the economic system.
