{"id":30027,"date":"2014-10-01T12:51:48","date_gmt":"2014-10-01T17:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=30027"},"modified":"2014-10-02T14:05:03","modified_gmt":"2014-10-02T19:05:03","slug":"brock-hosting-cibc-run-for-the-cure-oct-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2014\/10\/brock-hosting-cibc-run-for-the-cure-oct-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock hosting CIBC Run for the Cure Oct. 5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/cibc-run-for-the-cure-poster.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-30029\" title=\"cibc-run-for-the-cure-poster\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/cibc-run-for-the-cure-poster-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"cibc-run-for-the-cure-poster\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brock University will welcome close to 1,200 runners and walkers from across Niagara this weekend during the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.runforthecure.com\/site\/PageServer?pagename=2014_homepage\" target=\"_blank\">CIBC Run for a Cure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbcf.org\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation<\/a> event is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. with opening and closing ceremonies at Isaac&#8217;s. Participants can run or walk <a href=\"http:\/\/www.runforthecure.com\/site\/DocServer\/Niagara_5k_2014_route__revised_Aug_24_.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">five kilometres<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.runforthecure.com\/site\/DocServer\/Niagara_5k_2014_route__revised_Aug_24_.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">one kilometre<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This will be Brock&#8217;s second year hosting the event on campus, and many teams will represent the University, including Brock Varsity Swimming, Brock Running Club, Brock Roots African-Caribbean Society, Brock M &amp; S Outliers and Brock View Rentals.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers from across campus will also be out to support this event.<\/p>\n<p>Registration is still open, and Brock&#8217;s team is recruiting runners and walkers. To take part, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.runforthecure.com\/site\/TR\/RunfortheCureFY15\/Ontario\/2117137672?pg=team&amp;fr_id=1876&amp;team_id=85128\" target=\"_blank\">register online<\/a>. Those unable to join the team on run day can still contribute to the cause by <a href=\"https:\/\/secure3.convio.net\/cbcf\/site\/Donation2;jsessionid=43E4A2447AE218E612C2FE6AAB84BC99.app329b?idb=651504657&amp;df_id=2000&amp;2000.donation=form1&amp;FR_ID=1876&amp;PROXY_ID=85128&amp;PROXY_TYPE=22\" target=\"_blank\">donating online<\/a> to the Brock team.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Brock community are encouraged to wear pink on Friday, Oct. 3 to show their support for the event.<\/p>\n<p>Although the impact to campus traffic is expected to be minimal, here are some details to keep in mind:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tUniversity Road East from Flora Egerter Way to Village Road will be closed from about 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for the start of the run. Access to and from Lot P will not be available during this time.<br \/>\n\u2022\tGuests entering campus during the event will be encouraged to use the St. David&#8217;s Road and Glenridge entrance.<br \/>\n\u2022\t Free parking will be available in Zone 1 for the duration of the event.
