{"id":28832,"date":"2014-07-08T13:33:12","date_gmt":"2014-07-08T18:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=28832"},"modified":"2017-08-02T13:08:52","modified_gmt":"2017-08-02T17:08:52","slug":"business-health-care-leadership-certificate-introduces-business-strategies-to-health-care-professionals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2014\/07\/business-health-care-leadership-certificate-introduces-business-strategies-to-health-care-professionals\/","title":{"rendered":"Business Health Care Leadership certificate introduces business strategies to health-care professionals"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_28834\" style=\"width: 514px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28834\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-28834\" title=\"dsc07854\" src=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/dsc07854-1024x577.jpg\" alt=\"dsc07854\" width=\"504\" height=\"283\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-28834\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Business Health Care Leadership certificate students include local physicians and health care professionals.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Call it Management 101 with a medical twist.<\/p>\n<p>Fourteen local doctors and health services professionals had the opportunity to learn how they can apply business principles to the health-care industry through a new <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/news\/26241\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Business Health Care Leadership certificate<\/a>, offered jointly by the Goodman School of Business&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/business\/community\/CIMEE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Centre for Innovation<\/a>, Management and Enterprise Education (CIMEE), and the <a href=\"http:\/\/fhs.mcmaster.ca\/mdprog\/niagara_regional_campus.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Niagara Regional Campus<\/a> of McMaster University&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/fhs.mcmaster.ca\/main\/medschool.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The continuing education program, which held its final seminar June 25, consisted of six seminars that focused on how to integrate the principles of business leaders &#8211; like change management, adaptive leadership, quality improvement and personal branding &#8211; into the health care sector.<\/p>\n<p>For Dr. Neil Maharaj, a Niagara Falls-based respirologist, the seminar on &#8220;Developing a service attitude and building a service culture&#8221; has motivated him to apply some of the practical and useful tips to his own medical practice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sometimes we lose sight of the importance of service in our field,&#8221; Dr. Maharaj said about the impact the course had on his own medical practice.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s pleased with his overall experience with the program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You get a sense of leadership from a business perspective, not just a medical perspective.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The designed program was a first-time collaboration between CIMEE and the Niagara Regional Campus of McMaster&#8217;s medical school.
