{"id":27667,"date":"2014-04-22T09:24:00","date_gmt":"2014-04-22T14:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=27667"},"modified":"2014-04-22T09:24:00","modified_gmt":"2014-04-22T14:24:00","slug":"staff-share-ideas-for-bringing-down-the-deficit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2014\/04\/staff-share-ideas-for-bringing-down-the-deficit\/","title":{"rendered":"Staff share ideas for bringing down the deficit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After this month&#8217;s town hall meeting where senior administrators discussed the University&#8217;s budget deficit, the Brock community began sharing thoughts and suggestions on a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/outlook\/\">website<\/a> that was created to examine and track efforts to address the financial problem.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the proposals sent to the &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/outlook\/staff-suggestions\/\">Staff suggestions<\/a>&#8216; page include voluntary payroll deductions, campus-wide wage cuts and the adoption of unpaid &#8220;Rae days&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The Brock University Outlook website also links readers to budget materials, reference documents and communications updates, including the President&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/outlook\/updates-archive\/presidents-response-to-open-letter\/\">response<\/a> to an open lettrer from some of the University&#8217;s unions.<\/p>\n<p>The site went live April 9, the same day nearly 1,000 faculty and staff attended, viewed or logged in to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=27520\">town hall<\/a> held in the Sean O&#8217;Sullivan Theatre.\u00a0Officials that day outlined\u00a0steps being taken to cut this year&#8217;s deficit from $14.5-million down to $7-million.
