Last year, RAC received two awards.

Nikka Collison and Elena Milenkovski earned one of the top awards for a presentation called Leading through Improvisation. Amber Cooze took home the award for first-year student of the year, which was presented by ORHA, and Taylor Cove of Vallee residence won the honours for most-spirited delegate.

The conference, which last year was held at Brock, engages delegates in sessions about student growth and development, and how better to involve residence students in daily programs.

Brock’s RAC provides a forum for the views of about 2,400 residence students. It also consults with Food Services and the Department of Residences staff to improve facilities and services within the residences. In addition, RAC organizes several residence-wide social events and philanthropic fundraisers for off-campus organizations like RAFT.

Carley Webb, a five-year student resident who is completing her final undergraduate year in Dramatic Arts, is this year’s president of the volunteer-run RAC. The awards, she says, signal the continuing positive evolution of living in residence at Brock.

“This year has been the most impactful and transformative I’ve ever seen,” says Webb. “With the different events, initiatives and training days, there have been numerous opportunities for growth as individuals and as a core group. I have never seen this much attention to detail, care and integrity with the organization’s student volunteers.”

A reflection of RAC’s growing popularity is represented by the sharp uptick of students who want to volunteer for the organization.

Jamie Fleming, Residences director, said the awards reflect “the high quality of our residence life program, in general, and of our student leaders, in particular.”

Brock University’s Residence Action Council has maintained its winning ways.
