{"id":27022,"date":"2014-03-17T10:05:55","date_gmt":"2014-03-17T15:05:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=27022"},"modified":"2014-03-17T10:05:55","modified_gmt":"2014-03-17T15:05:55","slug":"brock%e2%80%99s-co-op-programs-office-has-big-plans-prizes-for-coopweek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2014\/03\/brock%e2%80%99s-co-op-programs-office-has-big-plans-prizes-for-coopweek\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock\u2019s Co-op Programs Office has big plans, prizes for #coopweek"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_27027\" style=\"width: 514px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27027\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-27027\" title=\"co-op1\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/co-op1-1024x601.jpg\" alt=\"co-op1\" width=\"504\" height=\"295\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-27027\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brock Co-op Students of the Year Massine Bouzerar (left) and Paul van der Merwe will be recognized March 24.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>Fourteen thousand #Brockcoop mentions in five days.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s how many social media hits there would be if each of Brock&#8217;s 2,800 Co-op students hashtagged #Brockcoop once a day.<\/p>\n<p>Will that be enough tweets to break Twitter?<\/p>\n<p>Probably not, but it would certainly be enough to raise national awareness about Brock&#8217;s successful co-op program.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the goal of <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/co-op\" target=\"_blank\">Brock&#8217;s Co-op Programs Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is spearheading Brock&#8217;s social media participation in National Co-op Week, which is organized by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cafce.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Association for Co-operative Education <\/a>(CAFCE), which runs from March 17-21.<\/p>\n<p>Cindy Dunne, director of Co-op Programs, wants Brock co-op students, staff, faculty and employers to share their photos, thoughts and tips about the co-op experience on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.<\/p>\n<p>Posts should be tagged with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23brockcoop&amp;src=typd\" target=\"_blank\">#Brockcoop <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23coopweek&amp;src=typd&amp;f=realtime\" target=\"_blank\">#coopweek<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She hopes to have the highest number of social media mentions on Friday, March 21 during the &#8220;Social Media, Surgite!&#8221; day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;National Co-op Week is a way of celebrating co-op programs and fostering awareness of co-op among new audiences,&#8221; says Dunne. &#8220;Our theme this year is &#8220;Brock Co-op, Surgite!&#8221; and we want our students and employers to get online and highlight the benefits of Brock&#8217;s co-op experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As part of National Co-op Week, CAFCE is running a social media <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cafce.ca\/coopweek.html\" target=\"_blank\">contest<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Co-op students that participate in the CAFCE&#8217;s online daily challenges will have the chance to win daily and grand prizes that include $100 gift cards to popular retailers.<\/p>\n<p>Brock&#8217;s Co-op Programs office will also be giving daily prizes to students that mention #Brockcoop in their posts.<\/p>\n<p>As an added bonus, Brock co-op students that win one of CAFCE&#8217;s grand prizes will be entered into a draw for a 30-minute information interview with a top co-op employer.<\/p>\n<p>Co-op is a key component of the <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/business\/\" target=\"_blank\">Goodman School of Business<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I believe in the value of the co-op program for our students,&#8221; says Don Cyr, Goodman School of Business dean. &#8220;We have over 1,000 current co-op students and thousands more that are successful grads of the program.
