{"id":26827,"date":"2014-03-06T16:56:16","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T21:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=26827"},"modified":"2014-03-13T12:11:47","modified_gmt":"2014-03-13T17:11:47","slug":"brock-professors-take-pies-to-raise-dough-for-a-good-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2014\/03\/brock-professors-take-pies-to-raise-dough-for-a-good-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock professors use pies to raise dough for a good cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_26828\" style=\"width: 514px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26828\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-26828 \" title=\"pie\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/pie-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"pie\" width=\"504\" height=\"283\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-26828\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Foundation of Movement Studies student Jessica Heyda paid $5 to pie Prof. Jamie Mandigo as part of a fundraiser. <\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>Five Brock University professors used pies to raise dough for a good cause.<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Mandigo, Larkin LaMarche, Craig Tokuno, David Gabriel and Phillip Sullivan each took a whipped cream pie in the face as part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/applied-health-sciences\/academic-departments\/kinesiology\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Kinesiology<\/a>&#8216;s student council&#8217;s goal to raise $600 for the Brock Niagara Penguins.<\/p>\n<p>The Kin Council raised $400 last year for the Penguins&#8217; swim and gym program for youth and young adults with a disability.<\/p>\n<p>In its second year, the fundraiser hits large Kinesiology classes (at least one in every year of the program).<\/p>\n<p>If the professor agrees to it, students can donate any amount they wish, and those who donate can submit their name for a chance to pie their professor.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/webcal\/2002\/undergrad\/courses\/PEKN.html\" target=\"_blank\">Foundation of Movement Studies<\/a> student Jessica Heyda paid $5 to pie Mandigo, whose donation of $20 helped the class come within a few cents of its $100 goal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a good example of the impact they want to make in our communities, so anything we can do for them and their passion for making a difference in our world is great,&#8221; said <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/applied-health-sciences\/faculty-directory\/kinesiology\/james-mandigo\" target=\"_blank\">Mandigo<\/a>, who is also associate professor and associate dean, Undergraduate Studies. &#8220;(We) fully support their initiative. (Students) recognizing a cause they can help out is fantastic and is symbolic of students and faculty &#8230; who want to make a difference in our communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five Brock University professors used pies to raise dough for a good cause.
