{"id":26794,"date":"2014-03-05T15:30:08","date_gmt":"2014-03-05T20:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=26794"},"modified":"2014-03-05T15:30:08","modified_gmt":"2014-03-05T20:30:08","slug":"brock-recognizes-top-co-op-students-of-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2014\/03\/brock-recognizes-top-co-op-students-of-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock recognizes top Co-op students of 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_26795\" style=\"width: 514px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26795\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-26795\" title=\"co-op\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/co-op-1024x601.jpg\" alt=\"co-op\" width=\"504\" height=\"295\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-26795\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Massine Bouzerar (left) and Paul van der Merwe were named top Brock University Co-op students in 2013.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>Massine Bouzerar and Paul van der Merwe were named top Brock University <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/co-op\" target=\"_blank\">Co-op<\/a> students in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>With a 93 per cent average, Bouzerar is currently in his fourth year of study in the Honours <a href=\"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/business\/future\/undergraduate\/programs\/BBA\" target=\"_blank\">Bachelor of Business Administration Co-op Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bouzerar, a financial analyst co-op student at Mondelez International, spearheaded an audit of one of the divisions, making recommendations that would save the company $10 million over the long term and introducing an additional $140 million in potential business ventures.<\/p>\n<p>Bouzerar is a devoted advocate for Brock Co-op, and for the past two years he has participated in recruitment and liaison activities both on campus and in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>He serves as president and founder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/GoodmanSchool\/posts\/601030789947701\" target=\"_blank\">Niagara Youth Business Education Initiative<\/a>, which is a not-for-profit organization targeting youth to expose them to future careers in business.<\/p>\n<p>Van der Merwe is in his third year of study in Brock&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/ccovi\/oenology-viticulture-program\" target=\"_blank\">Oenology and Viticulture Co-op Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the summer of 2013, van der Merwe worked as a vineyard and winery junior assistant co-op student with Culmina Family Estate Winery in British Columbia, where his supervisor praised him for his strengths in supervision, work quality and initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Van der Merwe has volunteered for the Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute, and organized formal wine tastings for his peers at Brock.<\/p>\n<p>One of his next endeavours is to create a wine tasting fundraiser in partnership with the OEVI faculty.<\/p>\n<p>The proceeds from this event will be donated to a local charitable organization called Red Roof Retreat.<\/p>\n<p>Van der Merwe has been a strong ambassador for the Brock Co-op program, serving as a guest student speaker at pre-employment training sessions and sharing potential job leads with other co-op students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Massine Bouzerar and Paul van der Merwe were named top Brock University Co-op students in 2013. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":26795,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[120,855,1608,1669],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/26794"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=26794"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/26794\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":26798,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/26794\/revisions\/26798"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/26795"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=26794"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=26794"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=26794"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
