{"id":26428,"date":"2014-02-13T10:57:30","date_gmt":"2014-02-13T15:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=26428"},"modified":"2014-02-21T13:20:21","modified_gmt":"2014-02-21T18:20:21","slug":"brock-tiger-cats-celebrate-longtime-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2014\/02\/brock-tiger-cats-celebrate-longtime-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock University, Hamilton Tiger-Cats celebrate longtime association"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_26429\" style=\"width: 471px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26429\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26429 \" title=\"ticats\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/ticats.jpg\" alt=\"ticats\" width=\"461\" height=\"259\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-26429\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hamilton Tiger-Cats executive vice-president and Brock graduate Doug Rye, left, and Brock University President Jack Lightstone.  <\/p><\/div>\n<p>More than 100 Brock alumni, friends and members of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats football organization met Feb. 11 at the historic Lister Block in downtown Hamilton to share some food and more than a few laughs.<\/p>\n<p>The reception, hosted by the Brock University Alumni Association, was the first in a series of events taking place in 2014 to recognize <a href=\"http:\/\/brocku50.ca\/50th-anniversary-celebration-experiences\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brock&#8217;s 50th anniversary<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was also announced that plans are underway for a Brock-Hamilton Tiger-Cats event to take place in the upcoming CFL season at the Ticats&#8217; new home, Tim Hortons Field, set to open this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Tiger-Cats executive vice-president and Brock graduate Doug Rye (BAdmin &#8217;88) spoke of the many connections between the club and the University.<\/p>\n<p>Standing amid artists&#8217; renderings of the new stadium, Rye said the team&#8217;s front office employs 13 Brock alumni working on all aspects of operations, from marketing, game day operations and corporate partnerships to new stadium development and ticket sales.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Hutchings, Brock&#8217;s vice-president of finance and administration and a former Ticat offensive lineman, shared some stories from his playing days, including episodes from the team&#8217;s training camps on the Brock campus.<\/p>\n<p>Hutchings encouraged alums in the crowd to &#8220;come home&#8221; this year and celebrate the 50th.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Brock has grown so much,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We welcome you back any time to see the many changes on campus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Brock President Jack Lightstone, meanwhile, happily donned a special Ticat jersey presented by Rye to acknowledge Brock&#8217;s 50th.
