{"id":26049,"date":"2014-01-30T16:43:47","date_gmt":"2014-01-30T21:43:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=26049"},"modified":"2014-01-30T16:43:47","modified_gmt":"2014-01-30T21:43:47","slug":"goodman-student-to-be-ceo-for-a-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2014\/01\/goodman-student-to-be-ceo-for-a-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodman student to be CEO for a day"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_26050\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/german-cv.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26050\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26050\" title=\"german-cv\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/german-cv.jpg\" alt=\"Jingwen Luo\" width=\"220\" height=\"282\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-26050\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jingwen Luo<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A Goodman School of Business Co-op student will get a glimpse into the inner workings of one of the country&#8217;s biggest courier companies when she plays CEO for the day.<\/p>\n<p>Jingwen Luo, in her fourth year of business administration, is one of seven Ontario students selected to shadow a top Canadian business executive in the <a title=\"CEO x 1 Day\" href=\"http:\/\/ceox1day.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Odgers Berndston CEO x 1 Day program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She was matched with Patrick Nangle, president and CEO of Purolator.<\/p>\n<p>Luo will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn the complexities of leading a top Canadian company when she spends the day with Nangle on Feb. 24. In turn, Nangle will gain insight into what drives the next generation of business leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Luo went through a rigourous three-phase selection process to get the gig, starting last October when she was up against hundreds of other applicants.<\/p>\n<p>Students entering the competition are initially screened based on their academic record, resume and a short essay about leadership. In the second phase, they complete an online leadership assessment form.<\/p>\n<p>The final phase is a telephone interview, followed by a half-day spent with Odgers Berndston partners and consultants, participating in group exercises and one-on-one interviews.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the process, <a title=\"Goodman Career\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/business\/career\" target=\"_blank\">Goodman Career<\/a> and the<a title=\"Co-op Programs Office\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/co-op\" target=\"_blank\"> Co-op Office<\/a> provided support and mentorship to Luo.<\/p>\n<p>This is the seventh year for the competition.
