{"id":25956,"date":"2014-01-16T14:34:44","date_gmt":"2014-01-16T19:34:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=25956"},"modified":"2014-01-16T14:34:44","modified_gmt":"2014-01-16T19:34:44","slug":"brock-part-of-provincial-database-to-help-transfer-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2014\/01\/brock-part-of-provincial-database-to-help-transfer-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock part of provincial database to help transfer students"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_25958\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/monique-brock-news.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25958\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25958 \" title=\"monique-brock-news\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/monique-brock-news.jpg\" alt=\"Monique Beauregard, transfer recruitment\/admissions officer, helped get Brock online with a new provincial database that will make it easier for students interested in finishing their degrees at Brock to transfer here from another college or university.\" width=\"480\" height=\"379\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-25958\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Monique Beauregard, transfer recruitment\/admissions officer, helped get Brock online with a new provincial database that will make it easier for students interested in finishing their degrees at Brock to transfer here from another college or university.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>It&#8217;s getting easier for students attending other post-secondary institutions to finish their degrees at Brock University.<\/p>\n<p>Brock is one of the first universities to be part of a new Ontario database that shows students the credits they&#8217;ve already earned and what they would need to complete their studies at the University, possibly saving them time and money in the process.<\/p>\n<p>The database, called Course-to-Course Transfer Guide, launches Monday, Jan. 20 at <a title=\"ONTransfer.ca\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ONTransfer.ca\" target=\"_blank\">ONTransfer.ca.<\/a> Students will be able to enter their transcript information, such as course codes and descriptions, to make informed decisions about transferring into a specific Brock program.<\/p>\n<p>The database is overseen by the <a title=\"ONCAT\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oncat.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT),<\/a> a provincial organization tasked with co-ordinating credit transfer between colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p>Brock registrar Barb Davis said the <a title=\"ONTransfer.ca\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ontransfer.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Course-to-Course Transfer Guide<\/a> is a valuable tool for students considering Brock as a transfer destination, as it helps her staff facilitate even more efficient and transparent transfer admissions decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Last fall alone nearly 700 transfer students were admitted to Brock, she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Brock is committed to supporting transfer mobility and improving the transfer experience for students,&#8221; said Davis. &#8220;Our collaboration with ONCAT on this project is an example of this commitment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The new database could save a business student studying elsewhere but wishing to transfer to Brock an average of $11,000 in tuition by showing them credits earned and needed.
