When manager Carrie Kelly describes the many ways her staff assist researchers from all across campus, she glows with pride.<\/p>\n

“The Office of Research Services has a small number of employees who do a lot,” Kelly said. “They multi-task. They are knowledgeable in all aspects of sourcing, applying for, and administering grants, which are the lifeblood of research.”<\/p>\n

For her role in orchestrating ORS’s numerous activities, Kelly is the winner of this year’s Distinguished Service Award for Leadership, presented Monday at the President’s holiday celebration and faculty and staff recognition.<\/p>\n

The award recognizes a staff member who has a record of leading and working collaboratively, engaging faculty and staff, furthering the development of a respectful work and learning environment and culture, and building relationships and partnerships that enable the University to implement its strategic plan and related initiatives effectively.<\/p>\n

One example of Kelly’s efforts comes from the Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI), which creates and runs projects that involve many disciplines, industry and community partners and large research grants.<\/p>\n

“Many of the (funding) programs we were applying to were ground-breaking for Brock,” CCOVI Director Debbie Inglis said.<\/p>\n

“Carrie was always there to offer support in a multitude of ways that often required thinking outside the box and doing so under extreme time limitations,” Inglis noted. “For Carrie, the glass is half-full, not half-empty, and her dedication, focus and tenacity helps many across the university to figure out how to completely fill the glass going forward.”<\/p>\n

Kelly was one of 22 faculty and staff presented a service by President Jack Lightstone at the annual event.<\/p>\n

Gloria Gallagher, associate registrar, Jacinta Dano, a senior lab demonstrator in Biological Sciences, and Nadia Shaver in custodial services each received a President’s Distinguished Staff Award for exemplary service, advancing Brock’s reputation, making a significant contribution to the University or community and providing a valuable service to Brock outside their departments.<\/p>\n

“I am grateful, as always, for all of your hard work and contributions throughout this past term and throughout the year,” Lightstone said.
