First Place:<\/strong> Three boys racing and splashing at the beach by David Sharron, University archivist and head of special collections.<\/p>\n “Easy to look at with legs, arms and water showing motion even though the shutter froze the action to a split second,” Cahill said about Sharron’s entry.<\/p>\n “The blurred distant shoreline keeps your eye focused on the trio in the foreground. The photographer did an excellent job with additional help from the exuberance of youth.”<\/p>\n Sharron wins two tickets to the performance of Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal at the Centre for the Arts<\/a> on Nov. 23.<\/p>\n Julia Yan's photo of a sampan in a canal. <\/p><\/div>\n Second Place:<\/strong> A person navigates a sampan under willow branches in a narrow canal by business student Julia Yan.<\/p>\n “This photo is all about peace and tranquility,” Cahill said. “While a tighter crop would have improved the image, the photographer managed to use an overhead perch to catch the red deck and perfectly placed feet. Plenty of reflections, soft hues and hanging branches have created a wonderful three-dimensional, travel poster-like image.”<\/p>\n Yan wins a $50 gift card from Brock Dining Services.<\/p>\n Honourable mentions went to:<\/strong><\/p>\n Alexandra Lavigne's photo at Rome's Trevi Fountain.<\/p><\/div>\n Business communications student Alexandra Lavigne’s “thoughtful image of a woman about to toss a coin in Rome’s Trevi fountain.” Cahill said the photo creates a true holiday keepsake.<\/p>\n “You have to wonder what was she wishing?”<\/p>\n Kate Bezanson's photo of her son doing a flip off a dock on Oak Lake in Havelock.<\/p><\/div>\n Sociology Chair Kate Bezanson’s photo of her son, Joshua, doing a cannon-ball off a dock into Oak Lake near Havelock.<\/p>\n “A really great angle and perfect timing makes the image so real,” Cahill said. “And the off-centre composition and the large expanse of open water gives the image a unique dimension.”<\/p>\n<\/a><\/a><\/a>
