Earth Day<\/a> is the largest civic observance in the world with more than 1 billion people participating in eco-friendly activities and events in their respective communities.<\/p>\n

Brock University will mark Earth Day (April 22) this year by hosting a weeklong drive to collect unwanted digital clutter and electronic waste for recycling starting Monday.<\/p>\n

“Every year, tonnes of e-waste needlessly ends up in landfills,” says Tom Saint-Ivany, chair of Brock’s Sustainability Co-ordinating Committee and Associate VP of Facilities Management. “Making the effort to recycle these materials is just one of many things that we as a community can do to help our environment.”<\/p>\n

“We’re asking staff, faculty and students with e-waste, basically anything with a plug,” says Saint-Ivany, “to help pitch in for Earth Day by dropping off their discarded electronics at any of the 15 collection cages that will be set up on campus.”<\/p>\n

The campus-wide event ties in with the successful e-waste recycling initiative that takes places annually during residence move out and is now in its second year.<\/p>\n

In addition to 12 e-waste cages currently in place near Brock residences (list of locations<\/a>), three additional cages will be set up to collect unwanted computers, monitors, televisions, microwaves, printers, cell phones, cords and cables.<\/p>\n
