{"id":21964,"date":"2013-04-16T13:08:35","date_gmt":"2013-04-16T18:08:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=21964"},"modified":"2013-04-16T13:08:35","modified_gmt":"2013-04-16T18:08:35","slug":"brock-to-help-lead-charge-in-improving-online-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2013\/04\/brock-to-help-lead-charge-in-improving-online-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock to help lead charge in improving online education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/online-learning-banner.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21968\" title=\"online-learning-banner\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/online-learning-banner-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"online-learning-banner\" width=\"504\" height=\"283\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brock University is one of seven Ontario universities to join forces in order to expand access, improve quality and share resources for online learning in the province.<\/p>\n<p>The consortium, called Ontario Universities Online (OUO), is sponsored by the <a title=\"Council of Ontario Universities\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cou.on.ca\/IDeA\" target=\"_blank\">Council of Ontario Universities.<\/a> The initiative is designed to respond to increased demand for online courses and improve student access to them, including introducing a new pathway to university education through open access to a range of courses.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the group will encourage collaboration in the development of online and technology-enabled learning, improve credit transfer for such courses, and make it easier for universities to share online education resources.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to be a lead institution,&#8221; said <a title=\"Anna Lathrop\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/about\/senior-administration\/lathrop\" target=\"_blank\">Anna Lathrop, Vice-Provost Teaching and Learning<\/a>, and Brock&#8217;s representative with OUO. &#8220;This will enable our faculty to have access to cutting-edge technology-enabled learning materials, and allow our students to have access to a broad array of online courses and programs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Currently, students wishing to take an online course at another university need a letter of permission to do so.
