{"id":20258,"date":"2013-01-09T16:04:01","date_gmt":"2013-01-09T21:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=20258"},"modified":"2013-01-09T16:04:01","modified_gmt":"2013-01-09T21:04:01","slug":"nominations-sought-for-busu-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2013\/01\/nominations-sought-for-busu-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"Nominations sought for BUSU elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div id=\"attachment_20260\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/elections-2013-nominations-banner.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20260\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20260 \" title=\"elections-2013-nominations-banner\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/elections-2013-nominations-banner.jpg\" alt=\"BUSU is taking nominations for its upcoming elections. \" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-20260\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">BUSU is taking nominations for its upcoming elections. <\/p><\/div>\n<p>Students who have ever dreamed of being called president has their chance to earn that title now that nominations are open for the next students&#8217; union election.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"BUSU\" href=\"http:\/\/www.busu.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brock University Students&#8217; Union (BUSU) <\/a>is accepting candidate nominations for the elected roles of president and three vice-presidents: finance and administration, student services, and university affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Three seats are also open on BUSU&#8217;s board of directors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Being in one of those positions, you get to be like the head of an organization, which is like being the head of a corporation,&#8221; said Jimmy Norman, BUSU&#8217;s chief returning officer.<\/p>\n<p>Norman, who served on the Brock University Students&#8217; Administrative Council (BUSAC), said being elected to serve fellow students helps strengthen the Brock community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was good for me because you get to listen to constituents and bring forth issues that are important to them,&#8221; he said. &#8220;You do get a sense that you&#8217;re voicing the concerns of students and making Brock a better place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nomination forms are available at the BUSU office in the <a title=\"Student-Alumni Centre\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/blogs\/campus-map\/student-alumni-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\">Student-Alumni Centre<\/a> and are due Friday, Jan. 25 at 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign period runs Feb. 4 to 14 and those elected to the students&#8217; union serve a one-year term from May 2013 to May 2014.<\/p>\n<p>There is no fee for nominations. Election campaigns have a $300-spending limit, though that money is reimbursed by BUSU when candidates submit receipts for campaign expenses.
