Smith, professor of Sociology, has published a new book entitled <em>Global Capitalism in Crisis: Karl Marx &amp; the Decay of the Profit System<\/em> (Fernwood Publishing, 2010).<\/p>\n<p>Description from the publisher:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The world economy is currently experiencing a devastating slump not seen since the Second\u00a0World War. Unemployment rates are skyrocketing and salaries are plummeting in the developed\u00a0world, while astronomical food prices and starvation ravage the developing world. The\u00a0crisis in global capitalism, Smith argues, should be understood as both a composite crisis of\u00a0overproduction, credit and finance, and a deep-seated systemic crisis.
