{"id":18572,"date":"2012-10-02T08:51:45","date_gmt":"2012-10-02T13:51:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/?p=18572"},"modified":"2012-10-02T08:53:54","modified_gmt":"2012-10-02T13:53:54","slug":"brock-video-shortlisted-in-international-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/2012\/10\/brock-video-shortlisted-in-international-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Brock video shortlisted in international contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_18575\" style=\"width: 514px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18575\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18575\" title=\"Video Camera\" src=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/brock-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/depositphotos_1067480_l-1024x704.jpg\" alt=\"A Brock-produced video has been shortlisted in the Times Higher Education video contest.\" width=\"504\" height=\"346\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18575\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Brock-produced video has been shortlisted in the Times Higher Education video contest.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A new video showing what makes Brock University world class has been selected as a finalist in an international competition hosted by a prestigious higher education publication.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Times Higher Education\" href=\"http:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Times Higher Education,<\/a> a British magazine known for its international rankings of universities, shortlisted Brock&#8217;s 10-second clip from among 50 entries from around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Brock is the only North American submission among the eight finalists, who are featured on the <a title=\"Times Higher Education YouTube Channel\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/TimesHigherEducation?feature=watch\" target=\"_blank\">Times Higher Education&#8217;s YouTube channel.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Brock video is a time lapse showing students writing words on a chalkboard that describe their experience at the University while a narrator says Brock is world class because &#8220;we define our own experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"504\" height=\"285\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YKWSXVT3974?list=UUquqZYSjbdTsTGRzex9o_8g&amp;hl=en_US\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Shot during resident move-in day in early September, the clip was a collaboration between the University&#8217;s recruitment team in the <a title=\"Office of the Registrar\" href=\"http:\/\/brocku.ca\/registrar\" target=\"_blank\">Office of the Registrar,<\/a> and various student and administrative on campus.<\/p>\n<p>Liaison officer Tanya Pellegrino brought the different groups together to come up with the concept for the video while Joe Gottli, multimedia web specialist in the Registrar&#8217;s Office, provided technical support.<\/p>\n<p>Brock&#8217;s success in the contest helps raise the University&#8217;s profile on a global scale, said Beth Natale, director of recruitment and retention.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Positive exposure that helps us articulate why Brock is an exceptional choice for a post-secondary education is always a good thing,&#8221; Natale said. &#8220;While our reputation is continually gaining momentum, we are still a relatively young university. We take as many opportunities as we can find to raise brand awareness provincially, nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This particular initiative provided an opportunity for the authentic student voice to ring through and our students are often the very best to speak to the Brock experience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The video competition will help launch <a title=\"Times Higher Education World University Rankings\" href=\"http:\/\/www.timeshighereducation.co.uk\/world-university-rankings\/\" target=\"_blank\">Times Higher Education&#8217;s 2012-13 World University Rankings<\/a> on Oct. 3.<\/p>\n<p>Times Higher Education uses data from Thomson Reuters to develop its annual comparison of how universities perform, based on 13 indicators such as teaching, research and knowledge transfer.
